IMAGINE
Imagine there's no heaven, it's easy if you try
No hell below us, above us only sky
Imagine all the people living for today...
Imagine there's no countries, it isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for, and no religion too
Imagine all the people living life in peace...
Imagine no possessions, I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger - a brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people sharing all the world...
You may say I'm a dreamer, but I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us and the world will live as one
written by John Lennon & Yoko Ono
ABOUT IMAGINE
John: ‘Imagine’ is a song conceived in my head without melody. The first verse came to me very quickly in the form of a childlike street chant ‘da da da da da dee dee da dee da ee a eeeh’. The piano intro I’ve had hanging around in my head for a few years - the chords and melody followed naturally from this.
The middle eight was ‘conceived’ to finish off the song. I think it works as a song. Of course, there is always room for improvement - otherwise I wouldn’t make any more. The third verse came to me in an eight-seater plane. It’s a song for children.
Yoko: ‘Cloud Piece’: ‘Imagine the clouds dripping, dig a hole in your garden to put them in.’ This is not a piece of poetry. Poetry to me is nouns or adjectives. This is verbs. And you have to do them. These are all instructions and when you just do it, then you start to understand it.
John: ‘Imagine’ was inspired by Yoko’s Grapefruit. There’s a lot of pieces in it saying like ‘Imagine this’ or ‘Imagine that’. If you get a copy of Grapefruit and look through, you’ll see where I was influenced by her. ‘Imagine’ could never have been written without her. And I know she helped on a lot of the lyrics but I wasn’t man enough to let her have credit for it. So that song was actually written by John & Yoko, but I was still selfish enough and unaware enough to take her contribution without acknowledging it. The song itself expresses what I’d learned through being with Yoko and my own feelings on it. It should really have said ‘Lennon/Ono’ on that song, because she contributed a lot of that song.
Alan White (drummer): Every song we did on Imagine, John would make us read the lyrics and insist that we understood the meaning of the song before started playing it. That had quite an impact for me.
Klaus Voormann (bass): When we played ‘Imagine’ and heard the lyrics, the possibility that this was going to be such a big song was apparent. It definitely was. I even thought I didn’t want to play on it because it was so amazing with just John playing piano. It was so true and honest. That would have been enough. I hope you’ve got a version of just John playing it.
Phil McDonald (engineer): ‘Imagine’ was one of the easiest tracks to record, almost all live, in a few takes. We mixed the track at Tittenhurst and Phil Spector added strings on top of the stereo tape in the USA.
Yoko: John and I were both artists and we were living together, so we inspired each other. And the song ‘Imagine’ embodied what we believed together at the time. John and I met - he comes from the West and I come from the East - and still we are together. We have this oneness and ‘the whole world would eventually become one’ is the sense that we will all be café-au-lait colour and we will all be very happy together. All these instructions are for people for how to spend eternity, because we have lots of time.
John: If you can imagine a world of peace, if you can imagine a world with no denominations of religion - not without religion, whatever religion is - but without this divisive ‘My god is bigger than your god’ business.... Then, if you can imagine the possibility, then it can be true.
Yoko: ‘Imagine’ is a complete vision. A succinct bible of truth. It will start to unfold as you believe in it. The film? Well, it just happened naturally. I was well aware of the symbolism of everything - closing and then opening the shutters to let the light in. It’s rather personal, but I had a definite reason why I smiled at the end, in addition to loving being next to John.
Imagine The Ultimate Collection: Explore and enjoy the IMAGINE album and the 1971 Ascot Sound Studios & Record Plant Sessions like you’ve never seen or heard them before.

To quote Robert D Kaplan: "The Italian political theorist Gaetano Mosca noted in 'The Ruling Class'(1939) that universal peace is something to be feared, because it could come about "only if all the civilized world were to belong to a single social type, to a single religion, and if there were to be an end to disagreements as to which social betterment can be attained.... Even granting that such a world could be realized it does not seem to us a desirable sort of world." Of course, there is often nothing worse than war or violent death. But a truism that bears repeating is that peace, as a primary goal, is dangerous because it implies that you will sacrifice any principle for the sake of it. A long period of peace in an advanced technological society like ours could lead to great evils, and the ideal of a world permanently at peace and governed benignly by a global organization is not an optimistic view of the future but a dark one."

@@bluemoonmycology6392 if you read these comments and pay attention to how many people conduct themselves as if "Imagining" can be a reality it's pathetic. Go to any college campus or walk through any corporate office and pay attention, people all throughout the western world litterally reject their own identities and tribal nature in the name of these ludicrous culturally and socially destructive ideas it's insane. As a citizen of the Western World who constantly witness this dumb way of thinking I have every right to be critical of it.

Not many songs he could've written, because he was a chain smoker. I know it better than anyone as a former chain smoker myself. It does terrible things to your voice and your ability to sing. Early John Lennon's songs were so much better than the later ones, like 'imagine'. 'Imagine' is just some Osho's pseudo-philosophical bs poorly performed; you can't compare it to 'twist and shout', 'I should have known better', 'baby it's you' etc, when Lennon was in his prime. So... John Lennon died exactly when he should have died, according to our lord's Jesus Christ will.

When I was 9 or so, I scrounged up what money I could at the time and bought him their greatest hits CD. He loved it so much. He showed my sister and I (now 30 and 29 yrs old) what "real" music was. We played this song last night as he left us and it gave us peace. Love you Dad and thanks for everything. I know you're rocking and rolling all the way up there!

I just lost my Mom to cancer on Dec 22nd. This was one of her favorite songs. I lived far away from her in my young adult life as I flourished in different cities with all her love and support. Every time I would come back to visit her we would cook and listen to this song on repeat. During our time apart I would listen to this song whenever I missed her. Every single time I listen to this it hits me so hard with every emotion. I've been coming to this video almost daily since my Mom passed away. This song is about peace, solitude, unity, and above all else pure love. This is also the opening song that we played at her funeral service. My Mom's love always will radiate within my heart. I miss you so much Mom

Absolutely true. Wish he had been able, been allowed to stay for longer. His songs were deeper, more poignant and spoke to the soul of the person(s).

@@StevenBasurto82KG a little confusing but are you insinuating that John Lennon is in hell. Cuz u ain't nobody to be the judge of that. Nor did he have a reason to go to hell. Maybe certain people from the record company. But everything points to, he was a good man. He and Yoko were so in love too. The ending of the video is so sweet. Nothing but good vibes💕

Sandra Jovic I don’t mean to push beliefs or anything, neither do I care what you are,but if we’re talking about hell, John Lennon would go there. He didn’t believe in the Bible as fact and called the Beatles more popular than Jesus Christ. He said that Christianity will vanish but rock n roll won’t. As a Christian who knows the Bible well, he would go to hell. I love this song and he probably had good intentions, but in a biblical standpoint, he wasn’t.

I realize something. If John Lennon had never been murdered then he would've been 78 years old today. Think of many albums that would've been released had his life hadn't been cut short. I hope Chapman stays in prison until he dies.

Johnny's Credit Card depends on the idea. Like if it’s a practical idea. knowledge on how electricity works for example can be killed. Because that kind of knowledge degrades with time. It’s something that needs to be learned. But ideas for how to make the world a better place for everyone. That is inherently human. Just like the idea of death and destruction is inherently human too. That’s called duality. And human nature is always fighting itself. But we have to remember. Everyone comes from somewhere, and we are all gonna end in the same place. That’s why I want a political system that promotes equality. Peace and love.

David Ortiz because hitlerism isn’t a practical idea... it doesn’t take much to make people believe in it. Trust me. Whereas it takes a lot for people to believe in something obvious like evolution.
