Imaging the LOBSTER CLAW NEBULA From My Backyard With ASIAIR, ASI533MC Pro & Optolong L-eXtreme.

This video shows my full workflow for data acquisition with ASIAIR and processing in PixInsight for the Lobster Claw Nebula (Sh2-157). I worked for 2 nights but could only gather about 8 hours of acceptable data. Most of the subframes were rejected due to thin clouds. This is the imaging setup I used:
Telescope: William Optics GT71
Main Camera: ZWO ASI533MC Pro
Guide Scope: William Optics Slide Base 50mm
Filter: Optolong L-eXtreme
Guide Camera: ZWO ASI120MM Mini
Mount: Celestron Advance VX
Control: ZWO ASIAir Plus
I used 20 Dark, 50 Flat and 50 Dark-Flat frames for stacking in PixInsight (WBPP). The PixInsignt HOO process is specific to OSC Cameras and Dual Narrowband filter (Optolong L-eXtreme). The HOO image created in PixInsight was further refined in Photoshop.

A great video and image , I have same scope as you being delivered soon, I’m fortunate to live in bortle 3 with small observatory so will try to capture this target

Thanks Rod! Congratulations on your new scope. Living in Bortle 3 zone will definitely make a big difference. The noise you see in my images will be absent for sure. But this target is too big for an 8" scope, even with a reducer. However, you can zoom into some interesting part of this nebula to get a detailed image. CS!

Amazing job, and what is pixinsight a difficult program. I got astropixelprocessor and photoshop pro. And still need to learn a lot. And we need a clear sky for several days. Clear skies

Thank you! PixInsight is not difficult at all. I started with Photoshop but was surprised at the capabilities of PixInsight scripts when I got the 45-day trial version. Now I use PS only for minor final touches. CS!
