Materials:
- For small stones upto 4 mm, 0.6 mm (22 ga) square wire works well.
- For larger stones 0.8 mm (20 ga) and higher is recommended.
- You need to adjust the wire gauge according to your stone size.
Tools:
- Flush cutters
- Chain nose pliers

I've seen other tutorials on this setting, but they were much more complicated and I couldn't get them to work for me. This tutorial is sooo much better! Thank you so much. ❤ Simple and effective is what I like!

This tutorial was so helpful in finding a setting for some Ethiopian opal I had, as other wrappings tended to chip the stone where it sat. It works really well for rough stones too! although those have to be a little more customized(number and size of prongs) per stone. Still an absolute game changer for me!

Thank you very much for that video. What i still don't understand is the calculation of the length of the prongs and the size between the prongs. Can you give me some advice to that?
@ImbaliCrafts
@ImbaliCrafts 7 ай бұрын
The measurment between prongs always depends on how many prongs you make, and how big your stone is. The size of the whole setting is directly dependant on the size of the stone you are setting so it is impossible to give you a number as you would have to create the setting to suit your stone. The prongs should be just long enough to be 2/3 as tall as your stone. This is just a rough guide. With practice you will learn how long the prongs need to be and how far apart they are spaced depending on how many prongs you are making.

Amazing and helped me so much to do my best prong ever! Thankyou! Does it need to be a flat back or can you use pointy back stones?
@ImbaliCrafts
@ImbaliCrafts 9 ай бұрын
For the prong setting, it is better to use a point back stone. If you want to set a flat back, I would use the coil setting. Here is a link to that: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/hN6EnLCSuMDNqn0.html&ab_channel=ImbaliCrafts

This is such a great tutorial and you make it look so easy, but for whatever reason, I can never quite figure out how long to make the prongs and how far to bend the prongs so they sit on the beveled edge of the stone. I’m using 8mm stones and have tried it with square and round wire, 22 and 20 gauge and it’s just not happening for me. How doI measure the wire so it fits properly?
@ImbaliCrafts
@ImbaliCrafts 2 жыл бұрын
I don't measure the wire but it gets easier with practice. It's takes a bit of trial and error to see what size of prongs work for what size stone. Keep trying and you will find that it becomes more routine after setting a few stones.

Great stuff. I assume rounf wire and 4 prongs work as well?
@ImbaliCrafts
@ImbaliCrafts Жыл бұрын
Yes it does. Square usually works better but you can flatten round wire once the prongs are made so it works just as well.

What mm would you suggest with prong for a 5mm stone? You mentioned the Gap between each prong 1-2mm...correct?
@ImbaliCrafts
@ImbaliCrafts 2 жыл бұрын
You can use either 0.8 mm (20 ga) or 0.6 mm (22 ga). both will work but if you want an extra strong setting I would recommend using 0.8 mm (20 ga) As long as the prongs are equally spaces it doesn't really matter for the prong setting, It is a bit more important for the gallery setting depending on the stone size. Hope this helps. :)
