The George VI stamps are from 1937 to 1952 so the lathe could well date from around then....it is a sweet little thing! I just did a web search for IME Lathes....they made some very nice kit. You really have had a bit of luck with that purchase, well done Paul. Hope to see it in action soon Dave

Hi Dave, That is really interesting about the stamps... It all adds to the interest regarding the history of the lathe and it's owner. There are some nice IME lathes, they also made a drilling machine which is very cool. I will get it going and show you all. Take care Paul,,

My little watchmakers lathe has the original motor and I can say that a sewing machine would work perfectly. Oddly enough I purchased a sewing machine at a thrift store for 4 dollars. Simply because it was extremely well built, heavy duty and I was impressed with the quality. I did not recognize the maker however a viewer informed me it was a British company. 🇬🇧. Very old, very good.😁

Hi Paul how these two missed your wonderful share here is beyond us but here we are like a year later. The cost is always in the tooling as the lathe bed head and tail stock seem easy enough the costs are insane for most all the rest. We love the lathe (really nice) and most of all wish we had that style of mounting leg great find sir. Great as well you have the box the wooden boxes are all of our thoughts right now in our own shop now that we know how to refurbish them. Oh come now make something with her. Lance & Patrick.

Cool lathe! Really lovely and in good condition. Would love to see it in action. Until I find a person willing to repair my original unimat motor - I bought a "standard sewing machine motor" from ebay - inexpensive, works great, small and compact. I suggest you consider such a motor for this lathe.

@TheKnacklersWorkshop
@TheKnacklersWorkshop 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Craig, The main reason is limitation of space... The Unimat I had under estimated how small it was... The Myford I did get the long bed, which has given me slightly more capacity and should be fine to relearn how to turn on. The IME... It looked cool, it had the collets and was a good price. Take care Paul,,
@chrisblight6069
@chrisblight6069 3 жыл бұрын
Beautiful example I must say, I've been looking at watchmakers lathes and the prices seem exorbitant. I did see one of these for just under 275 but very few collet's, which you seem to have a lot of, that's quite a bit of money in itself. Not sure if IME supplied a cross slide with it, that's the only thing that might be useful, that and a milling attachment.
@TheKnacklersWorkshop

Hello Chris, Thank you for taking the time to watch and comment... The IME is a nice looking lathe and as I mentioned in the video the purchase was really for the collets... I have not found a good source of WW 8mm collects at an reasonable price for the hobbyist. Take care. Paul,,

Hello Ronald, Many thanks for dropping by, its good to hear from another IME owner. My one uses ww 8mm collets... You can purchase a complete set of collets from Sherline for around £1,000 and there are some cheaper options from some of the offshore suppliers but I am not sure of there accuracy. I feel that maybe a fairly accurate offshore option would be the same as a 60 year old used collet. I guess it depends on your budget and the level of accuracy you need. Hopefully see you again.
