The production had to be put on hold for two weeks due to Nicole Kidman suffering an injury with two fractured ribs and an injured knee during the rehearsals for one of the dances. Quite a few scenes where we only see Nicole from the chest up were filmed while she was sitting in a wheelchair. Also, the necklace Nicole wore was actually the most expensive piece of jewelry that had been designed for a film. It consisted of 1,308 real diamonds, and it weighed 134 carats. The necklace was worth an estimated one million dollars.

Nicole was MAGNIFICENT in Moulin Rouge. Her dancing, singing was amazing, she slayed. Nicole really is an incredibly talented actress. We adore our Nicole ❤🇦🇺❤

True. People think she plays the same character every time but I’d wager that if you saw her earlier films you’d realise that it’s because the movies now a days are all practically the same that’s why she ends up looking like she plays the same characters at this point in her career.

Why real diamonds? They couldn’t have just used glass beads?

Catherine Zeta Jones, Renee Zellweger, Charlize Theron, Hilary Swank, Kate Winslet, and Drew Barrymore were considered for the role of Satine in Moulin Rouge. Before Nicole Kidman was cast.

Given how this movie goes, I'm really glad Nicole Kidman only did a little bit of character acting (or whatever it's called when an actor/actress gets 150% into his or her role for a film. Example: Heath Ledger in The Dark Knight for The Joker) Lol.

Well about the same time she did the others and she was so scared that want to quit a few times and after that she made the hours portraying virginia woolf and I think that she was full "method" because since then is so deppresive all the interviews are like "do u think about death reese" "I feel depply sad" etc probably moulin was the most she ever had😅

@@maiaheredia3256 I always found it amazing that she did "The Others" and "Moulin Rouge" so close together, because it really showed what a range she had as an actress. The two roles couldn't have been more different.

In her close ups ,I noticed her eyes had red veins in her eyes! I used to go to an iridologist, who could tell you what weaknesses you had in your body by looking into your eyes! So that facts that Nicole was injured didn’t surprise me!

well, most of moulin rouge uses songs pre-recorded by the actors so they just have to lip sync on set. nicole had probably already recorded most of her singing before filming started (although they do use some live vocals in scenes like the ending)
