While i can’t say i was personally SHOCKED by the ending(I watch a lot of horror), i was shocked that it’s a wide release that tons of people are seeing. Feels like a lot of mainstream horror plays it very safe. (not necessarily a bad thing!) People in my theater went wild when the film cut to black. Loved this movie though. Think it absolutely earns its ending.

It is surprising, isn't it? Neon tends to take chances, though, and it's exciting to see that Sydney Sweeney does, too.

I kinda loved this movie! I’m bummed to hear Tim didn’t care for it but he was so funny in these reviews! I too enjoyed the ending and it really made the movie for me. The way she bit off the umbilical cord was gnarly too. I had a feeling this baby wasn’t going to be the “success” they thought it was after seeing all the failures, so when we heard the grunts instead of cries, I did gasp, but it kind of made sense. The ending overall was surprising in the sense that I’m surprised to see it in a theater release movie. It seems like an alternate ending that a studio would make filmmakers change to make it more digestible/satisfying for the audience. But I assume Neon bought it as is. Also seems like an edgy ending I would write in English class in high school and get in trouble for or something lol!

Saw it yesterday. I assumed it would be her faith that kept her from doing it. And keep in mind she had the burnt scars on her feet too! I thought exactly the same about the suitcase's aged look but I soon forgot about that. And I don't know when ultrasound started. I'm not sure I ever saw any trailers for this.

This is all too formulaic for me. Right from the beginning until the ending, it was all very parallel to SUSPIRIA and SAINT MAUDE. The beginning with one girl tried to run away, the best friend who was killed and their corpses found later, the fire near the end, even the killing of the pastor with the nail were all too similar.

Yes, this is a movie the churches would protest back in the 80s and 90s. I was not expecting the ending. My imagination was much more gruesome. Like Barbarian, I was expecting the failed Jesus clones in the catacombs. Or I thought her baby would come out like a hybrid animal/demon humanoid.

SPOILERS!! Yes agree the ending was great and Sydney was amazing during the whole sequence... I was already getting enough Rosemary's Baby vibes so I was particularly happy they didn't go that same way at the end!! I felt they didn't at all capture that same feeling of "an innocent trapped by evil", despite Sydney giving out her best Ms Innocent expressions throughout

I really liked this movie. Got the impression there was an element of the protagonist = the audience, meaning we didn't know anything she didn't. Added to the mystery and unease for sure. My biggest issue was that in the latter half, some of the horror didn't land and felt cliche. The mystery to me was the most intriguing and scary part. The escape sequences were great IMO. I guess that ALL the women there were trapped, many had been victims like this, and the place was evil long before the priest got there. He could've been coerced as well. Overall, I felt like this was solid but with a tighter script and more understanding by the audience, it could've been really great. 7/10

Not gona lie, I was pleasantly surprised with this one and I hate religious horror movies, they are SO cliche, predictable and most of the time it seems like they are trying to bash on whatever religion, more than actually trying to make a good movie, but this one is pretty decent, the only thing I hated was the pointless jumpscares every 10 minutes. And I honestly didn't see that finale coming, I was too busy trying to see the baby, I thought it was gona be some devilish looking deformity, and suddenly pfffff.... well damn lol And I gotta admit, Sweeney has talent, I am done saying that she only has a career because she keeps showcasing her cleavage, the girl can perform.

I actually enjoyed this more than I expected going into it. The dream part kind of lost me, but then I was like maybe this was a hallucination from being sedated while being impregnated with the demon seed. However the most suspenseful part was will she be a good Catholic girl and kill this abomination or will she pull a Rosemary's Baby and claim it and to be completely honest I was 50/50 right up until the end.

I wonder who is the villain in this movie. The protagonist has the highest body count and even kills a helpless baby at the end. On top of that she had zero empathy with anybody nor show any attempts to help anybody throughout the film.

To be fair, this movie portrays ever other character as psychotic from the very first frame to the last. This is why it is a bad movie, but Cecelia is being forcibly impregnated and impregnated against her will.
@indauroleal7953
@indauroleal7953 2 ай бұрын
@@BreakfastAllDay those villains are just pawns for the screenplay to deliver an over the top pro choice message. Sweeney said in an interview that the protagonist was supposed to be a 15 year old girl in a boarding school. So they totally butchered the script just to make this a vehicle for her; that explains why everything is so bad and bizarre

When was established that the baby was not normal or that he was a "demon"? I think you dont hear a baby cry at the end because this movie clearly has a pro choice message and does not want to "traumatize" women who are ok with killing fully forrmed babies
@PrincipiaDeCinema
@PrincipiaDeCinema 2 ай бұрын
The sounds the baby makes are very similar to the sounds my cat makes because he has asthma, so I found that choice to be funny and cute. This movie caricatures religious belief, but it also caricatures pro-choice viewpoints as well. You're completely right about the intent of the movie, but that's why the movie fails. The movie is a ham-fisted political movie that has no relation to any religious theology or pro-choice ideology.

@@PrincipiaDeCinema exactly. I just found out that this movie originally was not supposed to be about nuns or a convent. It was set in a boarding school and the protagonist was 15 years old. They forced this as a Sydney Sweeney vehicle.

@@PrincipiaDeCinema you misunderstood what I said. I meant the script they gave Sweeney 10 years ago was not about a nun in a convent . You can find the interview on KZfaq. I watched the movie.
