Love both of those cars!! Not sure if he was doing it deliberately but notice how the Z was taking the outer line on the tight corners almost leaving the door open which made the Vette have to work its rear tyres harder to try and pass until they were cooked. Vette needs to be more disciplined and not roast the rears. (All advice given from the comfort of my armchair)

Around the outside at turn two farken! From my armchair, i reckon the vette driver was throwing too much it just to keep up. Love this racing. Vette driver did give him room though which screwed his line

From my armchair, the 'Vette is doin' it to himself. He apexes early, & rides the inner edge halfway through. Kills his exit speed, and takes the whole straight for his hp to catch up. Datsun, on the other hand dives in hard, heavy brake while aiming just past apex, rolling in the throttle.

The Vette's tires failed him. Good drivung on the part of the 240 driver, baiting the Vette into a corner war he couldn't win because of his weight. Thank you for no obnoxious "background" music, as the engine sounds are always the best soundtrac.

The 71,I adapted a 383 stroker, suspension upgrade with KYB, 300ZX rear end, Goodyear 60s all around, and special reinforcement's to strengthen the chassis. I Could eat up Vette`s and Porsche`s all day long! Those old Z cars had good balance, and if setup right, would stick glue in the corners! They are phenomenal!! On the other hand, all the older Vette`s where known to not handle very well. this video proves that fact!

But you had to do a shitload of mods on your Nissans and the weight difference to the Corvette .......... majority of the time Corvette's and Porsche's are stock ..... all that is done is , bigger radiators , upgrades to make the car breathe better , bigger brakes and suspension upgrades and a roll cage .......... and they are good to go for road racing ......... and there was no 383 Stroker in any Datsun 280Z or 300ZX off the stock assembly line ....all 4cyl or straight 6's / V-6's .... Porsche is the lightest then the 280z , then the Corvette ......... with Engine upgrades to the stock engines in the three , the 280Z , is not even in the same ball park as the Corvette or Porsche ................................

@twoeightythreez
@twoeightythreez Жыл бұрын
@@patpeterson2671 a stock S30 Z car would absolutely whup a stock C2 vette in the corners, the only advantage the vette has is on a long straight, and a 75-78 vette doesn't have much of an advantage even there against a stock 75-78 280z. Put a chev lump in the Datsun and the C2 corvette stands no chance whatsoever. Further, if you Put a modern LS based engine in the Datsun, (with appropriate brake and suspension upgrades, of course), even a MODERN corvette will have an epic challenge. Against that, C2 once again will look like an oxcart in comparison ,!no matter what kind of engine its running. The corvette is still cool AF but it simply has no chance on a tight road course against a well prepped and driven s30 Z car. FWIW, there is absolutely nothing outside the body shell that is "stock" on that particular Corvette, all the mods on both cars did was make the action happen faster. The ultimate irony is how the modern Nissan Z has basically become the modern day C2 Corvette, its heavy, riding on a dated platform, not super powerful and will get handed its ass on a tight road course by a modern Camaro (let alone a C8 vette)

I once was in a sort of similar race in my 1981 s130z taking on a c4. The older Vettes and Zs don't look like monsters on paper but my god do I love these cars in every way that a person could possibly love a car. From my perspective as someone who's driven in a similar chase the Z driver here looks to be deliberately taking the outside line on those sweeper corners so that the vette has to work harder on his throttle control under the pressure of the corners. Doing that repeatedly he was able to get the vette to absolutely torch the rear tires. The Z can dance around practically whatever line the driver prefers in those corners because of its balance and weight. It was a brilliant tactic to defeat the more powerful opponent through means of endurance.

I've driven a 280Z. Own a Nissan Datsun 280C. It's It's heavier 4 door sedan. But the handling. Is superb in these Datsun for that Era. I've even tailgated a Nissan GT-R, BMW M6, and V8 powered Benz, just to name a few cars I had a run with. Engine may not have the power as those sports cars. But on bends, curves and in between lanes with flowing traffic, the handling was top notch. Once an L28 is built and tuned properly, it's possible to get 100hp/L NA. Turbocharged can easily give you 600hp. Back in the 80s Z's was pushing up to 1000hp. Nissan Datsun for life.

The Z was forcing the Vette to take a super tight line thru that corner, Worked beautifully!

So the 280Z guy smiled at the end of the race. The vette guy smiled every time he mash the throttle. 🙃

Either that Vette was a real handful, or he never found a line. Remember.. smoooooooth. Don't focus on the 280z line until you have to, you aren't driving his car.

I had a vett c3 if you accelerated going around a curve the rear tires would easily loose grip and create over steer too.

I always felt the oversteer was a result of sitting almost at the back tires, you initially tend to overcorrect because you feel you're way out there. It takes some getting used to.

The corvettes clutch setup might be the thing that is holding it back a bit .
@13_13k
@13_13k 2 жыл бұрын
Joe Oski --- you might be correct but the clutch isn't the real culprit. the suspension setup is the main problem which in turn is causing the tires to take that horsepower directly from the drivetrain with no buffer from the suspension keeping the car weight and the spring and compression working together. your clutch theory also plays into that horsepower being sent to the rear end in a bad way causing loss of traction. basically the Vette couldn't handle the enthusiasm its driver had in trying to beat that Zcar.
