Hello José, cool vid and very informative.. I have an uneasy and kinda taboo question; I am from Black decent, with French Passport, as born and raised in Paris. Although when I traveled through Mexico, 2008 (Monterrey, DF, Chihuahua, Playa del Carmen), I never had much problems except the one or two times but nothing serious. I am wondering about life and staying in Mexico, renewing visa within the country, maybe find a job as a french teacher (I have my degree), of course, I'll also have some savings with me which will permit me to live decently for a while. Do you think I might have some problems for everything paperwork visa related and dealing with governemental offices, best places to live and settle, what would be your advices and take on this issue in Mexico..? Thanks in advance for any info you can give me..

This video is over one year old, so the visitor visa extension is no longer available and the Regularization Procedure Status (which Mexico implemented during the Pandemic) had a certain criteria during the Pandemic making it easier for visitors that were already here, easier to obtain Residency. The criteria has changed in 2023 that really doesn’t apply to most foreigners seeking Residency now. To obtain Residency now, people still need to start the first process of residency in the country of their origin.

Correct I will be making a video on this soon. That program is over, now your option is to come to Mexico on a Tourist Visa and live here on said visa, renew it every 180 days and after a few renewals and with proof that you live in Mexico that is more than enough to qualify for temporary residency without having to prove financials

@@JoseArteagaTravels ….Mmmmm…I moved here in May on a 180 day visa and the first month I was here I established a rental with a rental contract through an Attorney. I still had to go back to the U.S. for my initial appointment for residency with the Mexican Consulate.

One thing I have found is that if you are going to own property in Mexico things are easier if you have a residence visa. You can own property directly (outside of costal areas) without a residence visa but you can't really get utility bills in your name and there's a capital tax of 25% on the property when you sell. Once you own property in Mexico it makes sense to get residence visa if you can.
@JoseArteagaTravels

Great point! Actually there are tons of reasons why getting a residency visa is a good idea. Some people want to buy property or a car or open up a bank account or a proper business or get a license. There are tons of reasons. But in the end it is up to the individual whether or not they need one.

Hello dere. I just watched this vid because KZfaq brought it up as an option to watch. I wasn't familiar with Jose and was going bananas trying to figure out what town that is. The streets are pretty clean even in the less travelled areas of town. I lived in the central highlands of Guanajuato for a couple of years so I knew it wasn't anywhere around there. I qualified for the resident visa but let the time elapse when I got comfortable in Colombia six years ago. I wish I hadn't let it lapse 'cause it'd be a very nice backup, so it was encouraging to see this. Thanks.

Great information Jose. I am currently in Bogota and coming to Mexico, for the first time, in February to travel throughout the country. I have heard so many stories of people saying they asked for 180 days and got much less. I've also heard from January a tourist visa is only going to be for 30 to 60 days. I have only got this from Expat FB groups where there's so much information going around. Sometimes I think they're trying to put other expats off coming to Mexico. I am going to ask for 180 days and I'm going to use the VIP Fast Track gate so I don't have to line up. I hope I get the 180 days.

Yea, I also question about “people getting stuck at the boarder because of too many visa runs”. I do know that if you are flying into Mexico, depending on the reason that you are here in Mexico, you may not receive a 180 day visitor visa.
@JoseArteagaTravels
@JoseArteagaTravels Жыл бұрын
I know that is the common misconception but the reality is that if you want 180 days you will get it. I have yet to meet anyone that did not get the days they asked for. Anyone telling you otherwise is not telling the truth about what happened to them.

@@JoseArteagaTravels ….Hey There. It has nothing to do with people telling me otherwise, I experienced it on my own. If you are flying into Mexico, Immigration will ask you the reason you are here; visiting relatives, vacation, business related etc…. When I flew into Mexico in 2001, Immigration ask me why I was here and how long I was staying. I only received the amount of time that I was staying as a visitor and that was 12 days. When I moved here last May, I flew again and Immigration asked me if I was here on vacation and I said, “no, I am here on research” and they gave me 180 days.

At least when you look on the mexican government consular website, they claim that to get your temporary resident visa through economic solvency you need to have $55,655 CAD in the bank in the past 12 months, or $3339 CAD in income per month for the past 12 months. And I think if you do it at a consulate they will probably hold you to these standards. Lots of people who want to live in mexico can't satisfy this because maybe they are scraping by on a pension, or maybe just working some type of job remotely, pr doing freelance work, that maybe doesn't pay the best. But I think in that case those types of people are best doing what you recommend and get a lawyer to deal with it. Yeah you can stay on a tourist visa forever, but in the long run it's much more economical to become a resident if you plan to stay in mexico long term. and also less annoying.

Yep. you hit the nail on the head. The economy is hurting here, why would they say NO we don't want your Dollars. They do have a couple requirements to renew the tourist visa, mine being I only have one stamp entering Mexico, so I do not qualify to renew here. So I leave in a few days for a Visa run to Miami. I'll let you know what I get...10 day visa or 180.

I think that guy is spreading a lot of fake news. You do have to present your ID in certain situations but you do not have to carry ID with you at all times. Much of what he is saying sounds like a lot of fear mongering. I watched some of his videos after that video you are talking about was sent to me and it seems like all he is doing on his channel is spreading lies. Thats why I created my Facebook group and things like this community in order for people like you can reach out to the other expats who have already done all those things and have proof of it. I'm not a fan of that channel and you know I dont like to bring anyone up or anything like that. But I am very very suspicious of that channel and the info it is "providing". Tread with caution and always do your own research, at the end of the day we are all just random guys on youtube...... I think I might have to make a video to help dispel all of the rumor he is spreading. He is not wrong on everything but is carefully twisting the truth in order to push a certain narrative. He does tons of editing and its just him in front of the camera..... I show you everything.... and theres other channels who also dont like the misinformation he is spreading and im sure its channels you already watch as well. Again he is a former US Agent telling you everything the US propaganda tells you about Mexico. Go figure

Thank you for the useful information. I do have a question before I make my mind to come to Mexico. Is it possible for a tourist (or business tourist) to get a CURP? In order to get vaccine certificate, CURP is necessary but I only have a canadian passport( free entry 180days max.). Some people say it is possible, but there is no legal doc. to prove that. It will be great if you would answer my questions. Thank you

Except for Baja you will have to buy a temporary import permit for the car that you bring from the USA. It’s basically a deposit to make sure the car is not left in Mexico. You need to have at least a temporary resident card to buy and title a car in Mexico . Also if you don’t have Mexican insurance on your car and you have an accident the police impound it on the spot . You won’t get it back.

@@randywilliams4325 thank you for the information. I think the Mexican insurance has something to do with why so many people get their car plated in South Dakota. I think. I will definitely have to figure all this out.
@randywilliams4325
@randywilliams4325 2 жыл бұрын
@@mconnie111 Your Mexican car insurance is not valid unless you have some type of current license plate on the car . A lot of snowbirds only stay in Mexico on 180 day fmm so they keep the car plated in their home state . Some people leave a car in Mexico so that’s were the South Dakota plates come into play . Also it’s very hard and costs money to officially import a USA car into Mexico. Many states like California you have to get smog inspected for a renewal . South Dakota does not care . But the catch is they will only send plates out to a USA address . If you get a temporary residency or better you can buy and license a Mexican car . A reasonable car like a VW Vento is cheap and gets better fuel mileage because they are not tuned for emissions . Plus you need temporary resident to open a bank account . I am moving to Baja in November . I am trying to get uncoupled from California to avoid tax bills from them .

Jalisco is one of the states that recognize same sex marriage so you've got that working for you. I would try to find an office in a progressive place to do it so there's less chance of running into a Kim Davis. I'm sure if Puerto Vallarta has an office it would be ideal. If they don't recognize it, your husband can get citizenship after living in Mexico for five continuous years on residence visas. The test for citizenship asks a few history and Spanish language questions I think.

@@JoseArteagaTravels It's wishful thinking on their part. There are lots of gringos who are really upset that immigration laws are "too lax" in the US/Canada. They support harsh treatment of people who cross illegally and they don't want to feel racist about it. So they love spreading these anecdotal tales that now Mexico is getting strict and checking for your documents everywhere you go and putting you in detention if you aren't carrying your passport and visa everywhere. If you fit the profile of a Central American immigrant or Haitian I can see this happening but it's reached pretty insane levels on some of these videos.

Just say no to border runs...
@JoseArteagaTravels
@JoseArteagaTravels 2 жыл бұрын
Why say no to border runs? I honestly dont understand the problem some Expats have with people doing border runs. As if people want to go make a run to the border every 6 months. The only reason people do so is because they dont have any other choice because they dont qualify monetarily for a temp visa and they want to stay in Mexico, so they go on a visa run in order to remain "legal" in Mexico. Anyone out there scaring people not to do border runs definitely have another agenda up their sleeve. Lastly border runs are not illegal and no one is cracking down. There is nothing to crack down on! So many people spreading so much fear to so many people who are already full of fear and looking for solace. Shame on all of you spreading so much fake news.
