The point isn’t necessarily that humanity shouldn’t have used the bombs on the ants but rather humanity is evil for having the bombs in the first place before the ants were around, and they were just used against other people. You keep saying we’re not gonna root for the ants - you’re not meant to, you’re meant to root for the main characters but understand the commentary on the malice of humanity for slaughtering everything, animals and humans

Hell, Americans in real life dropped 2 atomic bombs over Japan. And in anime they shown when bomb exploded what kind of bombs this are, where they are used and for who. Abi even commented when showing humans "why we are seeing this". This is why. This episode show that Chimera Ants were never actual threat to rest of humanity, because humans had tools from beginning capable of destroying them. In grand scheme Netero's death and this whole expedition going into NGL were unnecessary if you think about it.

Well, no, it's not different. Literally the first part of ep 127 was showing how the bomb was mass-produced, used by countless countries, that it killed millions, and when it was time to vote for it to be banned, people voted against the ban. Humanity is no different.

Pouf's death was very, very terrible. Poor guy just died in a cold deserted piece of land. His body forgotten to rot forever or if some humans find it they would use it for experiment and he was discarded by the king in the end too, that's the highest punishment a chimera ant royal guard could receive.

What I got from this arc is that having humanity can either bring out the worst in people (like Gon's psycho mode and the rose) or bring out the best (like Komugi's influence on Meruem, and Gon's influence on Killua).

So... I don't necessarily think what palm said about the nature of humans and ants is contradictory. If humans are capable of such degrees of love and empathy, but we would still go to extremes such as mass killing our own people with nuclear weapons despite this... it does start to make sense why she might come to this conclusion. Basically since we are capable of love, we don't have an excuse that a species who isn't capable of it might be. Also don't mind the army of armchair philosophers that pop out of the woodwork when reactors start showing signs of independent thought. This anime sadly might be the worst for it, despite the fact the core of its message should be convincing people to do the complete opposite. -_-;

The anime cut out the scene in the manga where we actually see Gyro walking away from the Chimera Ant nest in a large hoodie, the narrator says he and Gon are destined to meet one day and that Gyro sets out to build a new empire. Also the manga said Gyro retained his human memories instantly after being reborn. You actually see the shot that was used in the manga in this episode when Welfin is talking to Youpi. It's that hooded figure walking when Welfin is thinking about Gyro. But it doesnt say the stuff the manga said.

It is like stepping on bugs. To them, we are bugs. I think this statement brings to light how little we think of bugs. To us, their lives have no value. That's the same from their perspective. If we cannot acknowledge that, it will highlight our hypocrisy. Of course, it is well within our right to defend our own species and our way of life. But just because we have to fight them doesn't mean that we should choose not to understand their perspective. If they are evil, so are we. It's a battle between species who have little regard to each others' lives and the stronger one shall prevail.

Netero made the point perfectly, humanity will always win because of how far we will go to do so, no evil will prevent us. As the King realized, he was in checkmate before the fight started. What i love about the show is how much we see from the ants perspective. They are really alien, they dont come from a human perspective, pitou really being the best to show this. They are slowly developing emotions and such, but its new to them and the morality we live by is just totally alien to them. Its what makes the story so real.

However, Youpi has no human origins - he's made entirely from animals. This ties into the scene of a bug being stepped on by a human - we don't know the ant's perspective and just kill them without much care. Youpi can be that bug - capable of showing civility too. Also, the scene showcases that to them, we're the bugs being stepped on. So in other words; we're the same.

The whole message of this arc is that while humans contain compassion and empathy, they also are capable of malicious terrible things. The ants exemplify this to an extreme, Meruem moreso than any of them, and it's why he keeps shifting between wanting to understand and respect humans and wanting to conquer and annihilate them. His concept for society that he spoke of to Netero is a fusion of those two extremes, giving humans the ability to continue existing in an ant-dominated world, but restricting those who could survive only to the highest elites of the species; it ultimately would have failed, as it would've required extremely talented and skilled humans to be born all the time for them to continue existing, which wouldn't always be the case, but that is the idea of Meruem's compassion for humans mixed with his dominating and wicked nature. Meanwhile, you have ants like Meleloron and Ikalgo, who are more human than ant and are thus more compassionate, as well as the guards, who, with the exception of Pouf, all sort of have a small amount of empathy that is overshadowed by their ant brain forcing them to do their job and protect the king. Pouf is the only one lacking any sort of empathy whatsoever, even for the king he reveres so highly; he doesn't care about what the king wants or needs, he only wants the king to become the supreme being above all others because that is what the ants' ultimate genetic goal is. Meanwhile, Youpi comes to understand honor and emotion, and Pitou learns the importance of putting someone else's desires above one's own instincts. They all grow, in a way that is contradictory to their base nature and even to their roles as villains; they are evil, but if they are willing to change, they will do so and become more human. They are supposed to mirror humanity as an opposite; while humans are sort of seen as good creatures that become corrupted by greed and hatred, the ants are born monsters and have to discover why understanding others and working alongside each other is so important. That is why Palm says that humans are compassionate, followed by saying that they are worse than the ants: while the ants are just predatory monsters that all essentially want to learn how to be good, humans are comparatively kindhearted beings who knowingly commit heinous acts for what may just be temporary personal gain. The ants just want to eat and grow, while humans will kill one another for seemingly no reason.

The way I see it is that the humans were scared of something being more power, or something different that they aren't used to so their first reaction is to get rid of it. I don't consider eating animals, is "horrible" because firstly animals psychologically aren't the same as humans lol the comparison is really stupid when people make that. BUT these ants have human features like anatomy, think and the king even started to want to work with the humans and even said "convince me, lets have a chat" so he was willing to listen. He was still learning and open to ideas

the whole thing about this arc is that humans are just plain evil, this was just an after market small bomb that we probably have thousands of them in military bases. that's why HxH is not your usual shonen, the politics and stuffs are so well written (especially in the manga)
