In October 2021, Appalachian Mountain Club staff completed renovating the Imp Shelter, located off the Carter-Moriah Trail on the Appalachian Trail in New Hampshire.
The shelter was rebuilt in 1980 as the last native timber shelter in the White Mountain National Forest. Over the course of the project, AMC staff reconstructed the shelter with new sills, floor joists, decking and roof shingles. The original native timber walls and rafters were reused and replaced. With its focus on sustainability, this project mirrors many of the other AMC initiatives throughout New England.
