I've always regretted not visiting the Alpine Garden, considering that in the 1980's I drove to the summit on several occasions.

Have an interview Monday to be potentially doing Trail Maintenance in Maine this May! Fingers crossed I get it. Working for the ATC has been a dream for almost a decade now. Applied as a Ridge Runner in the Smokies, so holding out hope to hear a yes/no from them. Anything I can do to get paid, and work on the trail would be the dream come true.

The media always calls anyone walking in the mountains a 'hiker.' More often than not they are people from the Boston area who have no sense of the danger they are in in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. Hikers are people who are experienced in hiking and backpacking. They are not 'tourists'.

Matt and his crew do a phenomanel job. Living and working in New Hampshire for the summer was one of the most worthwhile experiences of my life and I will always cherish the memories I made while on trail crew.

So many folk doing good-- the antithesis of all talk, no action. Many of my happiest memories, AMC-derived, from years in Costa Rica, Virgin Islands, northern Maine, etc. etc. Volunteer vacations rock.

Do you have any tips for building up to hike Mount Washington like a list of progressively larger, smaller climbs as a workout schedule?
@ghettomist15758 ай бұрын
I haven’t climbed it so I can’t give you tips on the physicals 😂, but CHECK THE WEATHER. It gets so windy there, like people actually die there. Also make sure people can contact you. I don’t think it’s super arduous, if you are decently fit, you can probably do it. Good luck.

It's not the best place to poop. Animals will dig it up and eat it because they identify it as protein. But when you have to go you have got to go.
@JOHN-ly6yp8 ай бұрын
There are portable toilets available on the market with bags that you attach to poop in.
