Plyometric exercises are exercises that involve an eccentric muscle contraction (muscle lengthening under load) followed by a quick concentric muscle contraction (active shortening). This type of exercises has been shown to improve muscle efficiency (muscle requires less energy consumption), improve muscle power, and prevent muscle loss as we age. In this video we break down all of the components necessary to perform a true plyo exercise.

Thank you so much for this video! I had 28 months of physical therapy after bad car accident injuries and it all focused on building strength without any thought to power. I've really been noticing this as I've gotten older that I am lacking power and I love the way you broke this down. This will be really helpful to me!

These exercises and movements are, apart from children's games, integral parts of many dance steps, now I understand why it takes so much fitness for a proper performance. With bilateral movements, we can currently produce much greater force, and unilateral movements in the opposite direction take it all upon themselves by changing from eccentric to concentric contraction. Very good exercises to prevent falls and dangerous fractures.. Have a nice week.

Great video! ❤️ the way you break down plyometrics (and other exercises) into the progressive elements. So the switch jumps only after mastering the unilateral lunge jumps because a slow transition from one leg to the other loses the muscle energy…I think I get it now 😊

Thank you Doctor! I feel heard! How do I get the spring back in my step has been on my mind.
