jonathanhj I want to show you a professional run but also want to give a little back ground on these wonderful chords. something that helps is remembering that when you have the single notes. c eb gb a as a four note chord they are formed with stack minor diads.. they also have 4 different forms . go up a whole step and stack minor thirds d f ab c the follow same patterns . here is the run it is a hand over hand r stands for right and l stands for left. ( d f ab b ) on right then left same pattern continue moving up the keyboard. then resolve to a c 6 arpegio egac. left hand first then right then left .. these arppegios burn things in your brain by learning these they make you learn these. I probably couldn't forget them if I tried. I've done them possibly a thousands of times.

Kent you are awesome and so generous to share all of this amazing knowledge in such a clear way! I've been playing for years and have never been able to intentionally connect the dots to create that 'jazz sound' using the right scales over the right chords. These videos really explain and show the techniques in a way that makes sense and make it easy to learn. Huge thank you! Keep it up!!

Thank you so much for the drills. They were great! I love them because I did a lot of drills as a child taking classical, jazz and blues lessons. I took piano lessons between the ages of 10 to 15 but when I became a teenager my mind went other places so I didn't quite finish up on all of my jazz lessons so this is great for me. Since that time I went on later in life to play gospel for church and to start my own band was plays R&B and Jazz, as well as funk, pop and other genres. Since that time I started several bands that played gospel, R&B and Funk, Jazz and other genres. So this lesson helps me and all of your lessons helped me as a band leader and an ever-growing, ever learning piano player

Thank you for providing the sheet music for these diminished runs. My playing is freeing up so much man from you tutorials. I've always "felt" these runs and can hear them in my head but without ever having any kind of training I developed my own jazz style. Seeing it this way is exploding my creativity as now I can combine the felt runs in my head with actually applying some sound theory behind them. Thanks man, having a blast.

Thanks Kent! I can't tell you how it's freed me up. I've been playing a long time, mostly hard rock and jazz, but jazz is where my heart is. The first time I heard Take 5 I was hooked. Went out and worked all summer to buy a piano when I was 16 because my parents thought it was a phase LOL. My dad then bought me a Ramsey Lewis Trio record when he realized it wasn't a phase and I fell in love with cool jazz. Your teaching is awesome and it makes all the night club gigs so much more enjoyable. Thank you again and I look forward to all your music, playing, and of course, your teaching.....

Hi Matt, thank you! I wish I was 16 again, particularly because I remember my high school girlfriend. My advice is: just get inspired by your music and life, and that will motivate you to achieve many things, but not necessarily what you dream (ps: it takes work).

Fantastic and easy to follow presentation. Thank you! I've also found that the diminished scale works really well for tritone substituted dominant chords (i.e. Dm7 - *Db7* - CM7), which can be thought of as another dominant 7 family as you point out!

Yours and Tony Winston's videos about this are both good. Have to rewind and rewatch a bunch of times, gonna have to polish this a bit. It's easy to forget which ones are the whole steps in real time. I think Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood used to use this a lot? It was some time ago and I didn't know any jazz theory back then, but this pattern has that jazzy, floaty, dreamy lilt to it with the strong resolution at the end that takes it all the way home.
