I have the 6825A, it;s a nice tool. knobs were all stuck on mine but a bit of heat applied to the shafts loosened thim up and they have remained fine since, which is good as these things are not built to easily service the rotery swithces.

wow, now that is nice! Thinking about how it works is making my head hurt. Its basically a programmable precision audio amp with controllable gain and active current limiting. I want one but i'll never be able to afford one. $65 is a steal! An LED 7 segment frequency meter on the front would be useful as the analogue meters obviously can't respond at high frequencies.

Nice piece of equipment. Minor niggle, it feels very wrong when you talk about "amperage" what's wrong with using "current"??

That is not four quadrant operation, nor was it sinking current in the normal sense. A proper four quadrant supply will act as an active load, which it may be capable of, but you didn't demonstrate that.

Not seen one like that before, now if only i had a use for one it could be very useful. I've 3 switching PSU's which are good for lots of power in a small case, but if your doing ENC work you can't beat a analogue supply with an analogue meter, for low RF noise getting in to the test setup from your supply. Even the analogue ones with the led meter can be a bugger for noise.

Nice! I'm quite jealous. :) I think you meant to say 50 'watts', not 'amps' at 3:28. Also, at 8:53 and 9:07. I think you meant to say 'triangle' wave, not 'sine'.

Really sweet! I love the sandy texture of the cast metal body. I have an old HP power supply with the same body panels and same banana jacks. The meter movements on mine are stuck at 0 volts though! I am wondering if it's worth it to crack the thing open and try to fix them.

I have two of them, one for 120V and other for 24V and I use them instead a regular power supply ,why? they dont have a electrolitic outuput capacitor, not capacitor discharge when you do the things bad. They can be used as a battery simulator too. Is a very usefull tool

At 3:40 in, the instrument has not been demonstrated to be capable of sourcing or sinking current or operating in four quadrants. It has only been shown to operate in quadrants 1 and 3, sourcing only in each. No "sinking" capability has been demonstrated. "Sinking" means that instead of current flowing out of the output terminals, it can flow in to maintain the voltage setpoint. The specifics of polarity of the setpoint are essentially ignored with this terminology. Considering the case with the supply set to deliver a positive voltage at the "red" terminal relative to the "black terminal" : An ordinary power supply will go high-impedance at its output if something external to the supply forces the output voltage to be above the setpoint of the supply. With current sinking ability, the instrument will actively try to bring the output voltage down to the setpoint by causing (conventional) current to flow into the red terminal - it behaves as either a series regulator or a shunt regulator, depending on specific conditions. That is operation in quadrant 2. With the relative polarity of the terminals reversed, operation is in quadrant 4. The non-square limitation in quadrands 2 and 4 is almost certainly due to the safe operating area limitations of the output transistors. Because sinking is to the opposite supply rail, the voltage across an output transistor could approach twice what it might see if used only as a normal series pass element. Basically these power supplies are very very similar to audio amplifiers, the major difference being that they incorporate a bipolar voltage reference and some convenient bells and whistles.

As in comments below, I did not demo the four quadrants. Please read the User Manual for this product. It will explain it will in fact source and sink current. www.keysight.com/us/en/assets/9018-02032/user-manuals/9018-02032.pdf

how hard can it be putting a current limiting circuit into a powerful audio amp and call it a psu
@JaenEngineering
@JaenEngineering 11 ай бұрын
Very. Loudspeakers don't really like DC of any sort. As a result pretty much every audio amp will have an AC coupled design so it wouldn't really work without a pretty big redesign. Add to that the power rating of audio amps are for RMS/peak AC, so continuous DC is likely to cause problems with dissipation in the output transistors.
@EssArrB
@EssArrB 11 ай бұрын
Yes, just what I was thinking. DC couple it, add support circuitry for all that switching and metering, decent heatsinking, etc.
@brainndamage

The output stage on most class AB amps is DC coupled. But it would be very hard to make it have an adjustable and precise current limiter.
