"As podcasting goes, it’s quite a premise. Get a government leader to interview the guy who literally wrote the book on how well things are going. It’s sort of like Ronald McDonald interviewing the Hamburglar. Of course he likes the burgers." - Carl Kinsella

The launch of this podcast got space in the Irish Times, the Independent, the Examiner, the tabloids, a plethora of regional papers and after a month has 1500 views. Really got your finger on the pulse of the nation there Micky lmao

I think this is a neat idea unlike other pessimists, I am certainly not for most of the government policies but I have a strange fascination with modern government. In any case, I feel like the book is satire. You cannot expect me to sit and agree that Ireland is a great place when you hit me with literacy rates, life expectancy and what was it quality of life? I already expect the first two to be high (Granted that may be a First World expectation, I expect it of all peoples as we all do.) and would be curious as to why it was not. The last one, since it encompasses the world, again I have a floor not a ceiling. If you want me to laugh then okay but it does not send the right message to potential listeners in Ireland.

I consider it appalling that the former Taoiseach and now Tainaiste did not consider it worth his while to speak/discuss the abolition of local Democratic engagement which he promised when in opposition to bring back when next in Government. Town Councils served our country exceptionally well since its introduction by the British Government in 1898. His now craven interest in centralising all power in "Central Government" is bordering on a "Dictatorial cum Communist" rule. what has happened to the Republican ideals of Fianna Fail?

They agreed with it all along. It originated in the civil war but it never changed. Ironically the Church had a hand in promoting subsidiarity but those in power simply thought centralisation was better. There was a committee on this in the 1940s about it.

Really enjoyed this conversation. It's helpful to reflect on what went right (as well as what went wrong) in our national development. I'm looking forward to more from Micheál and this podcast!

I would like to draw viewers attention to the fact that this channel has been uploading for 18 years, with over 1.7K videos uploaded, and STILL only has 2K subs. 😂😂😂 This whole series will gain no traction and quietly be relegated to history I reckon. Would love to see people on who actually challenge him a bit. Good luck with that lol.

Michéal Martin is a petulant, thin skinned narcissist who's only leader of FF because he waited so long. He gets shirty in the Dáil under the tiniest bit of questioning, so the idea of him being a smooth voiced Pat Kenny 2.0 is ridiculous

It’s interesting just how much of this Podcast is so wrong, basically by sins of omission. It’s colossal in truth. Certainly a lot of worrying Negatives and Setbacks were glossed over, as if they never happened or were just minor in Nature. But it’s particularly interesting the Jobs Figures not really growing until the 1990s. Martin’s FF, by far and away and to a lesser extent FG+Labour, ran the State during all that time. We were also 25 Years in the EU too, with endless Handouts & Subsidies given to Us from Europe. Yet People were still looking for USA Visas? Others went to UK. It’s certainly not an Advert or argument for Voting for Traditional Tweedledee and Tweedledum Parties. Did they just suddenly improve? Anyway then we took Off? Whatever caused it, mostly a smaller EU, 15 Countries at the time and a Very Fortuitous Devaluation of the Punt in 1994 when we had lowest Corporate Taxes in EU and a young well educated English speaking Work Force I suspect. Combine that with Irish Bill Clinton in the Whitehouse and American Multinationals looking to Invest. All of that Model is changing into Future, dramatically now. The Signs are all there that everything in EU is now on the Slide. The Ukrainian War, if it ever ends at some stage, will cause dramatic Stress on the EU System. In a few years this Podcast is perhaps going to be seen as a Gaslightcast of epic Proportions. Perhaps Ireland’s most dramatic failure after a 100 Years of age is that despite being 100 Years old and in the EU for 50 years, a Re-Unification of the Island Territory is further away than ever and being made deliberately ever more Complicated too, especially by Mr. Michael Martin. We will see how good our Democracy really is after the next General Election, if the Public Votes for a Substantial Change from the Status Quo, will it Materialise in such a satisfactory New Government? Wonder will these two Happy Campers still be saying “Don’t Worry, Be Happy” then?

Yes, the parties changed the economic future. It is known that until the '60s Ireland was shedding people. Of course the government deserves a lot of blame but certainly the people do too. It is an Irish fact of life that they seek other shores.

It is genuinely sad to see what has happened to the Fianna Fáil party. Martin is a self serving individual with no regard for the party. I used to think he was waiting for the call from Europe but after watching this perhaps he’s waiting for RTÉ to call. He has no regard for the party membership as displayed when he went against them on the abortion referendum. He has no regard for the traditions of his party and recently unveiled a plaque to the free state forces who died during the civil war. Were the anti treaty IRA wrong Mr Martin? He negotiated a shocking program for government and Eamon Ryan is running rings around him. A party on about 5% has way too much power. His refusal to talk to Sinn Fein after the last election was his biggest mistake and Sinn Fein should thank him for making them shoe inns at the next election. His arrogant refusal to reshuffle cabinet was a disaster and we now see departments in a mess such as justice, education, and mental health. Now he is hellbent on ending neutrality. It is time you start sticking up for Irish interests and stop bowing down to other EU and NATO leaders. Here’s the best one he agreed to change our corporation tax rate because of pressure from the US and they couldn’t even get it through their own senate. The way his government handled the mass economic migration crisis has been disgraceful. The Irish state is now prioritising non nationals for housing over Irish people. The state needs to rapidly process all these applications and deport the vast majority. Also why are supports for Ukrainians so generous no wonder we have more Ukrainians than any other country per capita. I don’t know why the party has moved so far to the left and pandered to the woke mob so much. It is my opinion that Fianna Fáil has preformed best when it is centre right. It is time to start laying the blame at the foot of PP members because they are the biggest bunch of win bags. They need to grow a set of balls they are letting Fianna Fáil fall into ruin. The fact there is no centre right alternative to FFFG is they only thing saving their seats but that’s not a great position to be in things can change before the next election. Their is a large portion of people that pay for everything and get nothing who want to live in communities free from drugs, feral youths, and undocumented migrants when a party comes along and gives voice to them they will win an overall majority. As a former Fianna Fáil voter I honestly could not bring myself to vote Fianna Fáil under Martin again. I didn’t want a Sinn Fein government but honestly things couldn’t get any worse. I urge the pp to stop this madness and start preparing for the next election NOW.

This is true, the pro-life vote is not exactly unviable either as I think it was upwards of 25% of young voters went against abortion. Granted not everyone but we already have splits in the 75% and pretty much no-one in the 25%.
