Some people are just assholes it is what it is. He should be greatful to be able to meet and interview one of the best songwriters EVER!

Tom seems like a real down to Earth person. I wish I could have met him, even if just for a few minutes.

This interviewer was not a lover of Tom Petty & the Heartbreaker’s music.“ Full Moon Fever” was a solo album filled with spirit and light. Someone mentioned the interview Tom did with Gian Gomeshi on the cbc show “Q” in 2014. Now that is a brilliant interview. Also, in the wonderful movie “Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers: Runnin’ Down A Dream” by director Peter Bogdanovich, you get a truer sense of what was going on in the making of “Full Moon Fever.” Watch it on Netflix. ❤️

This has been and always will be my number on favorite record of all time. Each track so different yet perfect together.

It's always great to catch a previously unheard interview, because Tom Petty really didn't like doing them, so each one is precious. This interviewer, however, is beyond bad. No preparation; nothing. In a different context, in 1999 during a Charlie Rose interview, Rose had his behind the scenes elves keeping him well informed but it's evident that he didn't get Petty. To my mind, Tom Petty owned that interview, through his sense of humour and how candid he was. Looking at the big picture, Tom had an uncanny instinct for finding people he could trust, like Peter Bogdanovich doing Runnin' Down a Dream; Paul Zollo's Conversations with Tom Petty in 2005 was from a technical point of view, a real master class. And he gave Warren Zanes full access to anyone he needed to interview and didn't interfere with the process. He knew that inevitably he'd be misconstrued in articles written about him, so he made sure his truth got out there. The one interview I thought was superb was taped just after the release of Hypnotic Eye, so fairly recent. Jian Ghomeshi, representing the CBC, really managed to ask relevant questions and Tom Petty was in a reflective mood, demonstrating how brilliant and thoughtful a man he truly was. Briefly on another note -- I ought to follow Stephen Fry's advice to not look below the comment line, but I do anyway, and it's wonderful how many people simply post how a song, or the whole canon of Tom Petty's work has inspired them. That's truly wonderful. The only times when I've gotten nervous have to do with some listeners who think the singer is the song, i.e. everything he writes is autobiographical. Which is a bit frustrating. The second category of listener, which doesn't come up very often, are people who go on and on about how they have a sacred, unbreakable secret bond with the man, not the artist (there have been a few). That's stalking material, and really freaks me out re: the celebrity culture we live in. Not healthy. Tx for putting up with this rant! RIP Tom, half of you will always be ocean and the other half sky. You've given us all so much,

I think the interview is from 1989. At 28:30 Tom says: "I'm 38 now." And Full Moon Fever was also released in April 1989.

This interviewer seemed to know very little about Tom Petty and his music. He acted so hoo hum about it all. He didn't know what to ask about, and was probably relieved when it was over.
