Sasuke is a far better written character than anyone in the show. He’s kishimotos fave character for a reason.

Running into Itachi again changed everything.

People also don't realize that every time sasuke did feel at peace or even happy among team 7, he probably immediately felt intense guilt, ptsd, and anguish, as if he was forgetting and betraying his own family in those very moments.

I love Sasuke. He really is a depiction of what trauma really does to people. He feels very real and human tbh. I went through really traumatic shit as a young teenager (obviously to a lesser scale than Sasuke thankfully but still messed up stuff) and it really left me fucked up with a bunch of mental problems and an unstable personality. I definitely feel very seen and I can really understand why Sasuke acts the way he does. He's forever my favorite character in anime

A lot of people forget that outside of team seven he had no connection to the village,to him the village is the place that hurt him and nothing else People also forget that the fact that Sasuke can function in the society he lives in is a incredible feat on itself i mean he was what 6 or 7 during the massacre

The hate Sasuke gets highlights the fact that a large part of the Naruto fanbase both have no understanding of basic human psychology and/or are hypocrites. Most of what is in this video (and more) is what I've said about Sasuke for the last 15 years. A lot of people gleefully overlook his extreme trauma and more so than anyone, he had to most motivation to become a villain in the entire show after experiencing the most prolonged trauma. He didn't just watch everyone he loved die once (like everyone else with a sad backstory), he had to watch it over and over and over and over and over...as a 7 year old dough eyed kid. On top of that, the person who serverely traumatized you was the closest person to you. Then the same guy comes back and bitches your sensei showcasing the fact that Konoha has nothing to offer you in terms of reaching ur goal and that Itachi could come back and kill anyone close to Sasuke if he wanted to all over again, meanwhile Orochimaru at least gave you tangable power you could see. So to protect the world from Itachi, it's a moral duty to not only avenge your clan but stop him from going on a massacre again whenever he feels like it...And to then find out that person massacred ur entire clan due to being used by the village you protected as a result of his blind patriotism to Konoha that was spurred from his trauma from witnessing war. Of course Sasuke wasn't going to make the same mistake. As if that wasn't enough, dude was born with Indra's curse of hatred, even if he wanted to be a goodie two shoes like his haters critique him for not being (they're clearly not very smart individuals either), just that curse alone predestined him to turn his back on Konoha like his predecessors already did.

Excellent video, you perfectly pointed out the reasons behind Sasuke's actions. I would like to add that the village never tried to make amends with Sasuke. If it wasn't for Naruto, the village probably would have forgotten about Sasuke.

Solid video. Sasuke is one of those characters that are hated on...just because. I don't think it's rational because other characters get lauded as best thing since sliced bread for similarly controversial decisions and brooding demeanor (Pain, Guts, Eren just to name some).

I agree with Sasuke being a great character. I disaree with Itachi's Heel/Face turn being "Good Writing". Let's be honest, Kishimoto wasn't sure where he was going to go on multiple occasions. If viewed realistically, there is no way to defend the death of that many non-fighting individuals. Itachi had been built up as a self-hating "Hitler". His story arc was one of the two big retcons in the series along with Minato originally being the strongest hokage. The difference is that the Minato retcon didn't involve forgiving a genocide and ended up giving us the Hashirama vs Madara titan clash. Even after all that Sasuke had done, he still never came close to being as bad as the leadership of Konoha. Sasuke would've had to have killed a great many good characters to even come close. By the end Konoha still owes him alot and don't have the right to recompense.

2:15 I think people overlook that Sasuke calls Sakura annoying as a way to protect her from getting involved and hurt in the process. So the truth is that he actually cares about her (not that I ship them)

Sasuke was a great character, a much better character than Naruto at the very least, but the itachi retcon ruined Sasuke's character completely. All his life he wanted nothing but to avenge his clan - which is a totally justifiable and understandable position for Sasuke to have considering what he was made to go through by Itachi. Yet, to support the itachi twist narrative Kishimoto made sasuke do one of the stupidest things someone in his position would do realistically, when Obito had that talk with him. Obito standing 2 feet away from Sasuke told Sasuke to his face that he too was there that night murdering the people of the clan with Itachi. Not only this not register as an important piece of information in sasukes head at the time, not only did Sasuke not add Obito (or Madara as he was claiming to be) to the list of people he need to kill to avenge his clan (because he was obviously too weak to kill Obito right there and then), he ended up joining Obitos terrorist organization?? That was definitely top 5 stupidest narrative lines Kishimoto ever conjured up in the story. Sasuke all his life wanted to avenge to kill itachi to avenge the clan but some masked man just told him to his face that oh i was there too all up in that business, so instead of going oh im not done after itachi and theres another motherfucker i need to kill, he joins hands with him? That was just so stupid. Plus, why in the world would Sasuke believe anything Obito told him, about the Uchiha, or the "TRUTH" about itachi. Why in the world would the sole survivor of a genocide believe the words of a maniac whos also being super suspicious by hiding his face under a mask all the time, and who just admitted to being partly responsible to the tragedy. That made absolutely no sense. Theres no way someone in Sasuke's position would just accept everything that came out of Obitos mouth after Obito admitted to that, AND join hands with him. Kishimoto really expects the audience to believe that Sasuke would throw away every bit of hatred he had for Itachi for committing genocide againt his clan and killing his mon and dad infront of him (and making him relive it over and over again under a genjutsu on two different occasions) and be all Kumbaya i am my brothers keeper right after a suspicious masked man just told him some story about how ACTUALLY itachi loved you he did that for u, he exterminated everyone you knew, from your parents to relatives, to neighbors, to friends and everyone he knew from his clan because he love you.. Would anyone actually believe that? in that situation? But no, Sasuke was no longer the avenger who hes being all his life right there and then, he didnt even care that Obito just told him he joined hands with Itachi to exterminate the clan. All in the service of retconning Itachi as a tragic hero, silent protector or some bullshit.

The great misunderstanding of Sasuke is the fact that he experienced loss like Naruto, but his loss was in many ways more sinister. Naruto was alone from the beginning. Sasuke became alone when the person he loved and trusted the most took everything from him. Naruto was hungry for attention, but Sasuke was scarred. To love and trust is to become vulnerable to getting hurt again. Initially I was stunned that he wanted to destroy the leaf, but after thinking about it it made total sense. His hatred for Itachi was transferred to the Village that took everything from him.

Nah. There’s huge issues with this. His initial reason for leaving the Leaf make sense. He wants revenge on Itachi. He notices his weakness after the chunin exams . He’s helpless against Garra even in the partial transformation, and Nartuo summons Gamabunta showing a huge gap between them. Then when he finds Itachi his goal even with the Chirori not only does he fail to kill Itachi with his chidori but Itachi completely ignores him for Nartuo. And the last straw is how when he and Naruto clash Naruto’s Rasengan is superior to his chidori showing even without the summoning . Then the sound four easily trounce him even using the curse mark.Sasuke is too weak. He sees the power of the sound 4 and then once the ritual suceeeds he’s granted insane power by the curse mark. And Orochimaru made him far stronger than ever before and learning from him would be even better. Naruto Learned a huge summoning from a Sanin so with Orochimaru it would be amazing as well. Orochimaru killed a kage too.He goes to Orochimaru especially comparedIt’s one thing for Sasuke to want to be an avenger and not let anything like what happened to the his clan happen. It’s something else for him to say he’s gonna be hokage after being a missing nin, joining the akatsuki, and attacking the hokage summit and killing the hokage. Like yeah Danzo is a jerk and a traitor so nobody would care about him but the institution of the hokage and attacking the leaf is something else. There’s no chance of him ever becoming Hokage after his actions due to what the Hokage is and how they are chosen.

I always find it funny that weaboos glorify Japanese culture but then there confused on why Sasuke wants to uphold his family's honor above all else. He's got the most traditional Japanese values of all the characters.

My big problem with Sasuke is that he puts everyone through all this crap and got no consequences for it. See even if you understand Sasuke's reasons, it doesn't excuse him from accountability. And yet Naruto, Sakura, kakashi and so on have no issues with letting Sasuke walk free at the series end. Even the excuse that he helped save the world doesn't matter because he immediately endangered it after beating Kaguya. Then Sakura actually married Sasuke while Naruto lets Sasuke train his son Boruto. Then again even Orochimaru became a karma Houdini so it's par the course I suppose.

I think you miss the real criticisms about sasuke , in part 1 sasuke was a good character, his conflict and growth was done well , but in shippuden, everything went down , his arc became so nonsensical , it is like the writer was writing the action before writing the character, like how tf did sasuke chose to destroy the village after knowing the truth and become itachi yesman , itachi was still who murdered the clan , Fans like bad guys , if sasuke is hated , it is because he is annoying, not because he is a bad guy
