Great video, spot on. I'd like to add that most of the time it's better to apply noise reduction to just the shadows, not the whole image. A quick way to do that is to use a luminance qualifier to grab the dark areas of the frame that are noisy and apply the noise reduction to clean them up. This way you don't affect the areas of the image that don't need it.

Great tutorial, however i still don't know when to use temporal or spatial NR. For my understanding, these are two different approaches (analysing movement vs analysing density of contrast/textures) of identifying noise but getting the same results. Since you said a combination of both might be the best way to deal with noise, I wonder if there are instances, where only one technique is better. And I believe you haven't mentioned in what way the radius in spatial NR affects the result. Glad you're there, please keep up the good work!
@team2films
@team2films 10 ай бұрын
Temporal noise reduction is better on shots with no movement or predictable movement. It usually preserves details better than spatial noise reduction. Spatial noise reduction can degrade details in images more easily. We tend to use on images with lots of movement where temporal noise reduction produces too many artefacts. Thanks so much for watching and commenting. I hope those answers helped.

Really great succinct video. Glad you used an astro clip as an example as this is the sort of thing I shoot often. There is no way I can add light to these sort of scenes and shadow noise is significant. Just as you demonstrated, a heavy handed NR approach produces muddy looking footage. What's the best way to clean up these light starved scenes when increasing acquisition exposure isn't an option and Resolve NR smears out much of the detail? Just use curves to crush the shadows out a bit?
@team2films
@team2films 11 ай бұрын
Yeah, that can work. There are other noise reduction plugins you can try too. Temporal noise reduction is best for preserving details. Neat Noise gives excellent results. It's a paid download though. Thanks for watching, great to have you here.

@team2films
@team2films 2 ай бұрын
Hello! It's difficult to make blanket recommendations on those settings because it depends on the amount of motion you have in your footage. You'll want more moderate settings if you have lot's of motion to prevent unwanted artefacts.

Hello Team 2 , i have a question if its normal , when i use noise reductiona and also magic mask on a clip ( plus color gradin) its being like taking half an hour export time just a 4-5 second 4k h264 clip . Is that really normal ? ( i use m1 macbook)
@team2films
@team2films Жыл бұрын
That does sound a little excessive. There are lots of factors that can contribute to render time. NR and magic mask are very professor intensive. But there might be other challenges with your render, i.e. codecs or other effects applied in your colour grade. It might be worth doing some troubleshooting to see if you can work out what exactly is causing the decreased performance. Thanks for watching and commenting.

@@team2films So I'm going to be noisy, because I'm not going to pay 300 dollars to have the Davinci lol maybe one day. Which do you think is the best noise reducer: Neat Video, Denoiser or Davinci?
@team2films
@team2films 10 ай бұрын
@@rafael_daguerre DaVinci is unbelievably good value as it's a perpetual license and includes of the other studio features that come with DaVinci, tools like relight, depth map, magic mask, transcription, voice isolation. Its inbuilt noise reduction is fantastic, but Neat Video's is a little better. However it's not as good a value proposition as DaVinci. For example if you were to purchase it for Premiere, you'd pay $80 and you'll only be able to use it as long as you continue paying $50 a month for your Premiere license.
@rafael_daguerre
@rafael_daguerre 10 ай бұрын
@@team2films I understood. True. Without a doubt, DaVinci is the best option. I didn't buy the BM 6k (even though I love its image) because I need a hybrid machine, but I would have the DaVinci, lol. I bought the Fuji X-H2S, which seems to be the best (hybrid) in this price range. Thanks for the help and information. I'm from Brazil and the dollar currently costs 5x more for me. So, at this point, I'm going to use the free DaVinci and record in the best possible conditions so I don't worry about noise.
