Forest and Brady spent the night on the mountain in the dead of winter. The next morning, they briefly covered the products they were wearing, and talked about the different offerings from these two companies.

My lanyard fell off on the mountain last year. Other than that little detail they were great. I can understand the lanyard is just a loop. I took the bottom lanyard and moved it to the top on since the bottom is always under the gaiters.

SG is UBER light but just not as durable in my opinion as Sitka. It's always a trade-off. I own a ton of both and love both brands. Sitka has crazy layers, SG not so much but do you really need 3+ layers?? I don't. I love my SG pack, 2p skyscraper tent, and 0deg chilkoot bag. I like my Sitka Kelvin Down Lite because it doesn't have any plastic parts for sleeping in it. Every time he put his hands in that Grumman pockets you could hear it from the next state and they say the Kelvin down lite is noisy haha. the right gear for the job but I've loved my SG tent, packs, and bag. I haven't tried SG gaiters but the buckle system.. yes. I'll be using those in the future.

We've talked about that yes, however I do have a lot of experience with Kuiu's cold weather gear as well and I have been impressed with the Talus Pant, Kenai, and Superdown Pro. Avoid the Guide Jacket for colder weather.

Did you ever have trouble with snow sticking to the dyneema cord on the bottom of the stone gaiters?

If ice did accumulate, then I didn't notice it. The gaiters came off swiftly every time. -Forest

On the sitka stuff, since you have like 4 layers on, are they all the same size like LG or XL or different sizes. I have the jet stream and fanatic jacket, and their all the same size. I'm thinking about adding some more sitka stuff, but idk if sizing up will be too much.

Great question! The SITKA "layering system" is designed so that the end user can keep the same sizing, from their base layer through outerwear, such as a Size M for myself. Of course, there are some exceptions to the design and intent behind the SITKA "layering system" due to the vast array of body types. Feel free to contact us through GearFool.com if you'd like. Absolutely. I happen to be the person who was wearing the Stone Glacier Grumman Down Jacket in this video. What you see here is a 5'9" guy who weighs in at 165lbs. I'm wearing a size medium here. I also fit into a size large for this product in the torso region, but the sleeves run just a tad bit longer than I'd like. @@weekendwarrior8334 Absolutely! I also wear a size medium in the SG Cirque Jacket. It provides me with an athletic fit that permits a few layers to be worn beneath it, yet it's still "slim enough" on the outer profile to permit the M5 Rain Jacket to fit well over it. There isn't any excessive bulk anywhere nor is there any restriction to my mobility with these systems on. Appreciate ya! - Forest

@@gearfool Interesting. I just ordered the Cirque Black Label in a size Large. Originally I ordered the Cirque Vest in a Med and found it to fit very tight on my frame. The large Cirque vest fits perfectly. Hopefully that translates to the jacket as well. Thanks again!!

Was the Cirque Lite just too warm to be a mid layer for this trip/environment? As in wearing it in the same position as the ambient

The Cirque Lite would also make a great mid layer, it's just going to be less breathable. It will keep you warmer though, and protect better from the wind.

I’m looking for a warm windproof pant for predator hunting at night. Was considering SG’s pants but unsure of which to go with. What’s your recommendation? I’m in the Midwest and hunt out west a bunch when the temps drop. We stand for 20 mins or so then walk back to the truck and on to the next spot.

I think the De-Havilland pant would be perfect. It’s the only heavyweight pant with enough optional ventilation to actually hike in.

Have you guys compared the Grumman set vs the Sitka Kelvin lite down? Do you have an opinion on which is not packable and warm?

SITKA makes some incredible products, but I'd have to recommend the Stone Glacier Grumman Goose Down Jacket here. I've used the Grumman Goose Down Jacket extensively over the course of the last year, and found it's packability and warmth to be perfect for my needs. The SITKA Kelvin Lite Down Jacket offers comparable warmth, but is noticeably bulkier and generates a lot more noise when being worn and moving around in it. - Forest

The timberline pants are quite a bit heavier. Are the de havalons warmer because of their wind blocking capability?

Yes, the de Havilland Blocks wind very well. They are also a thicker material than the timberline (aside from knees and butt) so they hold more heat. The weight difference between the two pants is negligible in my opinion. 24oz vs 29oz but the timberline comes with suspenders and knee pads. -Brady
