Wait.. so premise is that Earth didn't have enough food so they resorted to hunting aliens by using "hyperdrives" which use 1000 x more energy than it would take to actually create the food.. yep, that totally makes sense.. NOT.

It would take all the energy in the universe to travel near light speed but these movies always show us doing just that and traveling across galaxies in days if not hours, and without consuming the universe itself. Best to completely turn ur brain off watching these movies or ur just going to be angry 😂

Bro the source of energy isn’t the same. The movie implies that the plants and animals were extinct. How can they create food from rubble, soil, and water? There’s nothing to breed, no seeds to grow… Unless they grow meat from their own cells

it would have made more sense to use superstitions to hunt these creatures kind of like what people do here to endangered animals (killing rhino for their horns; elephants for their tusks; sharks for their fins, etc.) they could have made it highly valuable, meaning $$$$ moolah to buy one. that's hollyweird for an unlikely scenario like food shortages as an excuse.

It would have made more sense to say that the alien creatures were hunted for their delicacy and rarity. We right now hunt endangered species for delicacy, so this is not far fetched. It would have made the giant alien creature also heroic, protecting its kind and give it a reason to be hostile to humans and hunters. Just that simple change, and the entire story would have played out exactly the same.

this is one of those movies that seems to have been filmed 15yrs before it got released. The Richard Bentley character is acted by Holt McCallany, in his mid 50s when this came out. He looks like mid 40s and looked older in Mindhunter series on Netflix. It probably took them a decade to fund and complete all the cgi. One of those 'production hell' financial limbo films.....there's heaps of films that never get completed or get made just to hold onto an IP and don't get released, or just get shitcanned like that huge 90million dollar batgirl film that was so bad its unreleasable. Netflix has a huge 100mil scifi movie it canned permanently a couple years ago too. Hollywood is a fkn mess lol

with the level of technology they have in the movie, it would be childishly simple to harvest the resources you need from asteroids to build giant farms in orbit around the sun, producing enough food to feed more people then theres physical space on earth. not one person in this movie has even one single hint of redeaming quality in them, a case could maybe be made for Lynn, maybe.
