We need de-programming in the US also. It's in process, but not organized. We have historians like the late Howard Zinn, Daniel Immerwahr ("How to Hide an Empire") but there is an active resistance (of course) to revisionist history re: treatment of indigenous people and the racism that goes back to slavery and to the present. He is a scholar historian who cares about facts, not about ideology. He knows that ideologies themselves are just facts shaped by history and you need to be aware about that or you will be fooled by them.

Probably fair to say that the rival tribes in South Africa like the Boars, Zulu etc etc did not include many religious fanatics who consider they are on a mission from God to wipe out their rivals no matter what the cost and were keen to make a deal to avoid a never ending war.
