In-ground Trampoline Install Time Lapse video with 14 tips to consider before installation.
#trampoline #trampolineinstall #backyard
My friend Sam at www.trampolineholes.com is installing a trampoline kit today. I had some questions about trampolines and trampoline holes that I thought I would ask him to help me understand what I would need to consider if I wanted a in-ground trampoline installed in my backyard.
He helped me with 14 tips to consider before planning and installing an in-ground trampoline.
Watch the video and let me know what you think in the comments below.

I attempted to dig mine by hand. Same size, same trampoline even. It took 60 wheelbarrows full to get 1 foot down. (3.5 cubic yards per wheelbarrow). On top of that, the ground was solid and rocky where I am at (also in Utah). I had a tiller to work the dirt and make it easier to dig, but with the clay and rocks, it pretty much killed the tiller. So I will say, if you are trying to do it by yourself by hand, stop and think about all of the other ways you can invest your time and energy. Find someone who can dig the hole for you and take away the dirt (something no one really tells you about and the average person doesn't think about - where to put the dirt). It doesn't have to be expensive. Just do it right the first time. Great video by the way! I wish I could post pictures here so you all could see exactly what I am talking about with the good, the bad, and the ugly. :D

Definitely consider an in ground trampoline. We had a standard above ground with sides attached and a neighborhood child was using it with our daughter. Both girls are very athletic and our daughter used it primarily to hone her diving skills. Our neighbors daughter bounced and fell into the netting then down through where the netting and the trampoline meet, then onto the ground-yikes! She suffered a concussion and was air lifted from our local hospital to Johns Hopkins where she stayed for 3 days. The remaining months of summer were frustrating for her being an active child. We removed and got rid of the trampoline immediately. This was 15 yrs ago before this system was available that I’m aware of. We did everything right and an accident still occurred.

Great vid. A few comments from me to add to the discussion: (1) Inground tramps are also great for high wind areas like mine. It doesn't take much for a strong wind to whip an unsecured trampoline into your neighbor's house (2) Trampoline Down Under has a rare spring count - 104 total so you are largely limited to their $250 pad when replacing which is much more expensive than a standard mat. Solutions are to get a more standard tramp installed in the hole or find one of the few alternatives (like TrampolineUSA - even though their website looks sketchy, it's just because they are largely a wholesaler and don't market well to the public, OR like the video says, make sure to remove the mat and pad in snow to extend the life.

I found my one wasn't as springy as the normal trampolines it's a smart idea but when it comes to old buildings an their weird sized gardens they have bearly any room to fit their giant diggers. (I used to have one). Also water build up is terrible and I'm the type of person who hates summer and the heat so it wouldn't work In my favour for the winter. I'd give it 3/5 I personally think it's overrated

Not worth the effort. I have a 14' and also a single person trampoline. I dug a hole for the small one to see what trampolining feels like at ground level vs up high. Bouncing at ground level was less enjoyable and even felt disorienting walking on the ground afterwards. I had to displace sooo much dirt and grass for even a small, one person trampoline. It was very destructive to the land. I also had to cover the ground level trampoline with a tarp so that dirt, leaves and mud stay off of it during weather changes. This means that at the beginning and at the end of each trampoline session, I had to spend time and effort to cover the trampoline and secure the tarp with objects. It was also unsightly. I much prefer trampolining above the ground. It stays cleaner and the view is so much better up there.
