I'm slowly becoming blind and it's interesting to see that I've been already intuitively following every tip you expressed in this video, I feel less alone!

I am visually impaired 58 year old adult with limited vision and I use a white cane.I live at home helping my senior mom,niece,disabled nephew and we have 2 spayed female therapy cats.I am as independent as I can be while living at home,I get help from the cnib and once in a while I get some help from my family,I take the buses and lrt train and now I registered with dats for medical appointments,I have secondary or rebound cataracts in both eyes which makes it harder to do things tgat I enjoy doing,I enjoy reading,adult coloring,fill in crossword puzzles,listening to my favorite music,etc.I do get eye fatigue and headaches so I rest my eyes a lot.I still love my life and I try to keep busy and learning new things etc. I love and enjoy watching your videos

I am also partually sighted with limited vision and I use a white cane with a roller ball tip.I live at home with my family and 2 female spayed therapy cats. I get help from my family and the cnib foundation and my friends and a o&m specialist.I have some appliences marked and I am in the process of getting my freedom and indepence back after four months of having to rely on my mom,niece and a friend or two to help me to get to my eye appointments and a recent cataract operation on my right eye in early september of this year. I can cook and bake my meals and desserts that are diabetic friendly meals etc with the help from my mom. I love and enjoyed watching your video on how to live independently and I can't live in clutter and I know where everything is inside the house.Nothing on the floors or stairs and everything is put in it's proper place. It is the buses. and the bus routes and bus numbers that I have problems with because the city of edmonton changed everything and I am unsure or nervous about taking the buses in my city

Well Well well and how do you know that after years and years of denial, right at the edge of my final years above earth, I'm doing in my home exactly the same things as you do in yours. The reason why I am here in the first place is, that I really can't find anything, from my glasses (I usually buy 2 pairs in case I loose one) to my chargers and almost everything in between. And today I succumbed to the idea that as well as adapting my place to old age, my daughter finally convinced me to go a little further and also adapt it for my obvious "other issues" (I'm not prepared yet to call myself handicapped). Maybe in a few years when I really can't fake it anymore. My solution for the glasses and most important chargers are Air Tags because I use Apple products. I really didn't want to buy them because they are expensive and according to myself a bit to nerdy but now they are becoming increasingly indispensable. Another solution for falling pills is just to leave them and hope that the vacuum cleaner takes them next time. It's hopeless to even try to find them. Sometimes I do truly archeological finds in that respect. Falling things are a nightmare. It takes me ages to find them and it's not so easy anymore to crawl on all four as it used to be. Something my dad does that I will probably do is get a silicone mat or some sort of grippy surface in a solid color and use that as a surface for pills or placing items that might disappear in busy backgrounds. He uses it daily for medications and im going to use mine for when I put down something small and lose it. I lost a spice packet yesterday because my counter was too busy

I'm partially sighted (low vision) and I agree on the busyness background is a nightmare to see anything! I also need to have things particular set-up order. I also rent(ed) apartments and some have busy counters. There are those temporarily wall/counter top paper that can cover the busyness that helped! I also lay out a solid board or thin cutting board/mat on the counter in specific area to contrast things. I cannot see clear/transparent cups either, I own transparent glasses but has design on them so I can see whats being poured.

Nice video = Vision Impaired since 2011 - RP - I stopped using glass cups of any kind - I only use disposable cups. cost a bit but I never break cups anymore, its safer, and less dish washing.

wow! I admire you. I have never thought of American blind people to be active like you. however, I am legal blind myself.

I'm dealing with a similar issue with my countertops and need to consider this next time I remodel. As for dropped pills, one of my cats is good at finding them and pointing them out. Hello I lost sight in one eye in 2019 and have poor vision in other eye it has been a challenge to say the least I'm trying to set my house up better so I know where most rings are thank you for this!

If I drop something on the floor, I an using my flashlight to help me finding it; it works with objects that has thickness, like a pill, a blueberry, etc. , by looking at its high-contrast shadow on the floor that is created by my light source. If the object is a transparent sheet of plastic on the floor, I am trying to find that sheet by its bright reflection of my light.

.I also do almost the same thing at home to make my life easier by doing everything that I can to learn how to use my remaining vision to do my housework,crafts etc.The only problem that I have that I would like to find a better way to get brighter lighting in the basement area,the lght isn't as bright as I want it to be in that area.

Yeah, if it was my choice also, I need very bright cabinets or countertops. The busy background makes it a little difficult.

suggestion for funding something small on your floor.....use of flashlight and use it as a scanner let it cast The Beam across the floor as opposed to shining the beam on the floor this will make whatever you dropped stand out as a shadow or actually make it easier to see.....

I love your video and I am also partially sighted middle aged female adult and I use a white cane,I live at home with my senior mom,niece,nephew and 2 female therapy cats. I used to live on my own with 2 roommate friends twice for 4 months and later on for 8 to 11 months and both times I ended up moving back home because it didn't work out with my friends. I know that in the near future that I will eventually have to live on my own by myself when my mom decides that she has to go into a senior facility or passes away.We share the rent,utilities,bills and buy groceries and I pay my part of the utilities,bills etc and my mom pays her own rent,utilities etc.

the static is neurological it is called "visual snow" even with my eyes closed or in dark sky i see them more ..so the visual snow appears more in dark , while the center of the eyes is not getting light very good it is no light so it = dark and then visual snow is being added to dark parts of the whole image by the brain so the dark parts seems like tv static i have visual snow too so i just wanted to tell you the static is about the brain not the eyes as i readed

So far minimalistic has not been my goal. I find that I have lots of things lots of places and I can still see them some wet I guess I’m going to keep it that way until I can’t see them. But I did the same thing the young man below said I feel the countertops to make sure I can set my cup down and I fell down I never played port and miss you. All of the things he talked about but I would go a step further in saying that just the general every day things like when I’m filling my coffee cup I found that I can count to 12 at an even pace and it will be near the rim I keep my hand over my food as I put salt or pepper so that it hits my hand before the food and I can feel if I’m getting too much if it’s flowing too quickly. Are use for kitchen help here is a great thing called a rotator. You put the potatoes or fruit or whatever onto these prongs and you slide down the top or another prong holds it tightly in place you were just the blade to the top of the fruit or whatever and you hit go and it spins it and cuts all the outside off into long strings like spaghetti. It’s so easy to peel things with this. It is also great for doing this with you with your low-carb spaghetti you can put zucchini or squash onto the prongs and it will peel the skin into beautiful spaghetti strips. A bump dots or made in heaven I have them on my microwave my stove all of my utensils because then I know I’m pushing the right buttons for the right thing and sometimes it even if it’s just on and off it’s so helpful if you don’t have a butt bump dots look them up on Amazon. Hey, i'm a 22yo guy. I'm blind in my right eye, partialy in my left and I have 2 questions for you: When i'm at other people's place, they find me beïng "overly cautios" and "wierd". (I.e. feeling the countertop before setting down a glass. Or coming to close into they're personal space when they're show a funny meme). Did you ever have problems like these, amd how do you deal with them? And Do legaly blind people have special selfcare routines for sore/strained eyes, headaches or things like that? I found some eyepatches with hyaluronic acid wich realy helps allot for sore eyes and baggy eyelids! Try them (Fun thing to poke fun at with sighted friends: the abillaty to find your way in dark places much better than them 😆. Just pretend stumbling around and then suddenly smack the hell out of them bcs they don't know where you are 🤣🤌) All said and done, thanks for the video!
