The ruling makes the completion of a trial in Mr. Trump's federal election interference case almost impossible before the November election. Meanwhile, former President Trump hailed the Supreme Court's immunity ruling, calling it "a big win for our constitution and democracy," while the White House said that "nobody is above the law" and the country needs leaders like President Biden. NBC News' Laura Jarrett and Hallie Jackson report.

Yeah and vice versa. It’s a good decision. People are too quick to jump on things like this. The president shouldn’t be able to be put on trial for flimsy or otherwise hard to prove charges. It slows things down and destabilizes the country. We need to solid, not just strong like a lot of people say. We’re a hollow nation and going after a possible President elect that is supported by at least half of the country does not do that. These types of things go beyond you like one guy but don’t like the other, I wouldn’t like this regardless of who was on trial. This is dangerous ground.

It very well could be, the Supreme Court ruled that Trump's conduct with regard to his attorney general and the DOJ with the false election claims and pressuring states to accept alternate slates of electors falls under an official act. The actions on January 6th and surrounding some of the other things Trump did were left open for the lower courts to decide.

This is not about Trump's indictment. This case was just about whether Presidential immunity exists. The District refused to comment on whether Trump's actions were considered "official duties". That question will be answered at a later date.

He can do what Trump did in 2020 and refuse to accept the results of the election if the country is psychotic enough to elect Trump and refuse to leave the White House. This is fantastic!!! Woohoo! @@mike197714 no. The DoJ is part of the executive branch. It's headed by the Attorney General who serves at the pleasure of the president (theoretically). At what point is this a good idea: "Mr President, we think you've been naughty! We want you to order your subordinates to investigate you." If he is guilty, then he's picking special investigators he knows will find nothing. If he innocent, then he is wasting time and resources. Alternative: the congress can appoint special investigators. It's their job to hold the President accountable.
