In memory of JOHNNY CUNNINGHAM : "Relativity"

Posted in tribute to Johnny Cunningham, who died 10 years ago today, on 15th Dec.2003.
He plays here with "Relativity", a group formed in 1985, with his brother Phil, and Michael and Triona Ni Dhomhnaill, both formerly of "The Bothy Band".
The tunes were all composed by Phil, and the set is on the first "Relativity" recording. Names are "The Hut On Staffin Island / Sandy MacLeod Of Garafad / The Soft Horse"

As a Relativity and Silly Wizard Fan, I'm not too proud to say I broke down and wept when I learned Johnny died in December 2003 a day or two after, He'd gone to play in the Lord's Trad Band, but left a gaping hole in our hearts. RIP Mò Braither. You are gone but not forgotten.

+Mandolin1944 All of these incredible musicians left an indelible legacy on the hearts and souls of the musicians who were learning their art back in the 70s and 80s - like me. Johnny will live on forever in our hearts, as will Andy.

Speaking of honour: I met Johnny at a session in the Sandy Bell's way back in 1998 and he borrowed my bow for a tune. It might sound childish but I am so glad and grateful for that :)

Thanks Douglas ..... great fiddler and wonderful person. I had the honor and privilege of meeting him back around 1990, and sitting in with him on few tunes at some little place in Waltham MA .... this vid especially caught my attention as sadly a very dear friend, and fellow musician, who was with us that night passed away last month .... so I raise a glass in honor and memory of both.

Any chance of getting the names of the other musicians in this video? Truly outstanding. Johnny, Phil and Triona left their marks on our hearts and souls. I was so privileged to be starting out as a Celtic singer and harper in the 70s and 80s - I learned so much from these great lights.

Thank you! Johnny, Phil, Triona and Michail are such a huge part of me as a musician - I listened to them every chance I got - in the car, on the subway going to and from work, at home -- I was so fortunate to meet them all in person in Philadelphia. Our band covered many of their songs and tunes. Thank you for carrying on.

+Joanna Mell Hi Joanna - this is the best I can do, 3 of the players I can't identify, as they never appear in any close-ups. 55 secs - fiddler is Alan Henderson 1.14 & 1.22 - may be Iain MacFarlane, but maybe not. 1.44 - playing small-pipes is Anna Murray 1.53 - percussionist is James Mackintosh 2.52 - Sandy Brechin on accordion. Some top Scottish musicians there, all of whom have made recordings - I recommend them to you. All the best.

+Aisling O'Connell - Hi Aisling - if you look at the whole of the "Comments" I posted along with the clip, you'll get all 3 tune titles there. The first is "The Hut On Staffin Island", which is more or less a session standard tune here in Scotland, some 30 years after the recording was made. Glad that you enjoyed the music. All the best.

Oh sorry I see them now! It's a lovely fiddle tune and he is such a good fiddle player. I am a Irish traditional fiddle player myself so i love discovering and finding new tunes to learn. Thank you for responding.
