Scott - I really love these live edits, its helpful to see what others do with their images. I learned a lot, especially how to work with a photo in mid-day light. Thanks!

Scott, you mentioned in the video and in the description about taking it in a black and white direction, but I did not see that. It would be interesting to see it in B&W, even though I really like the color version.

Hi Gary... yeah... it was those blues that kept me in color. Maybe I'll do a B&W version in the future. The scene has a lot of the elements I like for a high key style.

Yeah, I too was wondering why you just didn't try a quick 'v' to see how it looked in B&W. Thanks for sharing your work flow!

super tuto ! Never thought about using a graduated filter on bottom of image with a color mask. genius ! radial mask with luminance is also quick compared to my method painting the water with a brush

I've been leveraging color/luminance masks a lot more vs. hand brushing recently. Often it speeds up the workflow.

Great Live Edit, I've watched it twice and learned a couple of things each time.

As always I picked up some great tips following you on this post-process. Thanks. One question or comment on the final result.... and this is a personal taste.. the vignette seems over done in the upper corners. My eyes are drawn to the corners... Is there a way to tone down the corners but still include the rest of the vignette?

Hi Don... yes, corners can be toned down by either adjusting the midpoint or brightness of the vignette. Thanks for watching!

I liked the photo and the way you edited it. I learned a few things about the auto mask and brush work. I did have a question though. In the foreground just left of center were those two objects birds? It appeared to be two gulls, one looking left and one facing the camera. When you set your white point, it even locked in on the one facing the camera. I am guessing that they were rocks but man, they looked like birds. That brought me to my real question. If they were birds, they didn't seem to have enough "breathing room" from the bottom. In that scenario, would you have cropped them out or otherwise removed them in post? It seemed to me that once I saw them, I couldn't avoid them. As I mentioned they were probably rocks and felt natural to you. BTW, I like the live edits videos. They make me realize that a lot of things that I think about, you seem to mention as well and that makes me think that I'm on the right track.

Hi Philip... yes, they are birds. There are several others in the lower left, but very ghostly due to the long exposure. Now that you've pointed them out, I'd turn to a clone/stamp or other retouching to remove them. I don't think I'd crop them away... it may make the lower edge feel too cramped. I like the idea of having a platform for the viewer to mentally stand upon and take in the scene. I suppose it's one of the "perils" of the Live Edits... I don't catch everything. Many of my editing sessions include long pauses of me staring at the photo (or sometimes taking a walk) in the middle of working a photo. That doesn't play too well on KZfaq :-)

Thanks. By the way, I didn't intend to be critical if it came across that way. I was asking myself what I would do and I asked you to help either reinforce my own opinion or reconsider it based on new info. Since they distracted me, I was thinking that I'd take them out in PS or maybe with spot removal in LR. And for what it's worth, I am pretty impressed with your ability to make these high quality videos and especially doing it as a unrehearsed edit. Thanks again.

Not critical at all! It's good to hear the thoughts of other photographers.
