Man, as someone who recently got into 40K lore, this song encapsulates The Horus Heresy, which was pretty much the apocalypse for the Empire, all these demigods betraying and scrambling to kill each other, fragmenting off to become either mercenaries, warbands, or playthings of the Chaos gods. Didn't help that the Empire was about as perfect as a moss-covered swimming pool BEFORE it happened. In a grimdark galaxy full of augmented men in sophisticated suits of power armor, hostile Xenos, planet-devouring bugs, space wizards a spell away from becoming either a bomb or a portal to hell. To immortal, cruel BDSM elves that kidnap entire planets full of people to meet fates worse than death, horrifying man eating cryptids, and cosmic monsters that emit fields that can age you centuries in minutes. Not to mention hive cities that go from the ground up to space, full of billions of people, truly a miserable existence...
