I spent 40 yrs as a police officer and not once did I get asked what I'm doing carrying so much and that a white man in my town can't make that kind of money so I can say I'm a police officer. I too was the top detective working a lot of homicides as the primary investigator.

Were you a black man, the top detective for homicide in Philadelphia, in the late 1960s south? This is set in 1966 Mississippi, the last state to ratify the 13th amendment. And they did that fairly recently. Walk in those shoes and please rethink your comment.
