Love this piece for its chemistry. The partners inspiring each other to greater heights. I love their subdued flirtatious smile in the middle. You could feel the fire.

they have made a few mistakes here, but it's an incredibly technical and physically demanding piece. If you see it from other dancers you realise how good Guillem and Hilaire are.Sylvie said it's a piece when you dance it you are always margining on the edge.

I was going to say that too. Sylvie is the "diva assoluta" of the ballet world, quite an alien but people tend to focus only on her, whereas Laurent Hillaire is her male equivalent, a remarkable dancer and the combination of those two in this electrifying ballet is just stunning.

I think you exaggerate.Somehow you forgot that before Sylvie the title "Primadonna Assoluta" in 20 century was carried by at least three more dancers: Pavlova,Ulanova and Plisetskaya.

That's too much. Plisetskaya, Ulanova, Baryshnikov, Kirkland are a few examples of dancers that one could not say with any certainty that someone is better than them. But Sylvie had very unique gifts, and she is up there when it comes to modern ballet.

souvent elle domine son partenaire, tellement elle est géniale, mais je trouve que Laurent Hilaire est vraiment à sa hauteur, artistiquement et physiquement.

@@tarantellalarouge7632 c'est pour ca qu'ils etaient le top. Je peux te garantir...je les ai vu a' Londres dans Bayadere et Raymonda. 1990. Et je reve encore aujourd'hui de leur beaute', savoir fare et classe.

@@EuroForUkraine Hard to explain if you don't know ballet terminology But basically it starts at about the 22 sec. marc where Sylive kicks her right leg up and it ends up behind her on the ground whilst still making eye contact with her partner as if it was nothing !

it was a new year show on the french television at the end of the 80s,shortly after the ballet was created. i would say 87-89. I remember seeing in live on television , being amazed by it (i was studying ballet at the Conservatoire at the time) and being enraged by the polite applause that followed. i couldn't understand how the audience wasn't giving a standing ovation to this performance. You have to remember that at the time, this technical level was something unseen, nobody had such extensions (they are much more common now). But Sylvie and Laurent made everything look so easy that the audience probably thought that is was indeed easy :)) Pity that this recording is in black and white (the program was in color), the red hair of Guillem was mesmerizing, and it was so rare, new and daring to have a danseuse etoile with short hair (besides Zizi Jeanmaire)

This ballet was commissioned by Rudolf Nureyev in 1987 to William Forsythe for the Paris Opera Ballet.
