you do know that "hero" is just a title for people that can use magic in the fable games you know this because now matter what choices you make in the game you yourself are called a hero either way, rather it's good or evil his title "hero of heroes" only means he is basically really powerful

Fable uses the literal definition of Heroes. Literally just someone who lived a life outside what we understand. As intended by the Ancient Greeks.

Fable does something your not seeming to consider. They don't use the word "Hero" the same way. Hero does not equal good guy, going evil does not get you thrown out of the guild. the guild master himself says as much. Heroes in Fable are the ones trained to take on insurmountable tasks, making their definition much closer to the original demi-god version of the word than the modern good guy. Hercules was a jerk, and an idiot, but also a hero. As were any children of both gods and mortals. Jack is Hero of heroes because he is proven to be the strongest. not because he is the nicest

Y'know what really killed the Fable series, besides the lackluster final missions against Lucien and The Crawler? The fact that the series kept moving FORWARD in time. Look, I love my Master Flintlock Pistol as much as the next guy, but Fable is, always was, and always should've been first and foremost a FANTASY. Think about this for a second, if you pay attention to the Will throughout the series, it's clear that the further forward you go in the timeline, the weaker the will becomes, alluding to England's own stamping out of the possibility of faeries and such in IRL history. Since it's fantasy, and that's what we want, what the series should've done is go BACK in time. Instead of wanking over the details of the previous games and how great Fable 1 was, the rest of the series should've gone back in time to create certain parts of 1, when the magic was more powerful, the beasts were more terrible, and the world was more primal. Seriously, I wanna fight a Balvorn. They were known for devouring hundreds of people at a time, and that sounds brutal and amazing to me.

I like Jack's other weasely voice; it made him more creepy than the deep version does to me.

Hero was a title given to anyone who completed the trails of the guild, the game specifically says during the training tutorial that you can become the hero that saves the world or the villain that burns the world. Even the bandit leader Twin Blades is a hero, he graduated from the guild too.

Something to support your "Jack does whatever he feels like" theory is Jack of Blades kidnapped William Black and took him to the void, then he tried to enslave William with his sword of Aeons, however Will escaped with the sword. To me, that makes no sense. So i'd like to just believe that Jack kidnapped Will, took him to the void for tea and crumpets, then Jack gave his sword to Will (Although he made it look like an accident) then Will used that sword to defeat the Court.

My only gripe with your theory is the definition of the word "hero" in Fable. It doesnt necessarily mean "good". This originates from William Black's Children who, despite many of them being petulant monsters, called themselves "heroes". Because of that, "Hero" is more related to our understanding of the word "fighter" than our understanding of the word "Hero". Being called the Hero of Heroes is just an acknowledgement of his reputation as a whole, not so much his actual good deeds. Of which he has done few.

Even as just a silly idea I think it would be interesting to have a Fable game where Jack is the playable main character. Because he's more or less a chaotic middle in a world where decisions are made on a whim all the time it would be interesting to see a demi-god interact and pave his path.

I always thought he was called a hero because there were bloodlines of superhumans with the ability to bend fate and gain great power. Wether they were good or bad.

What you didnt mention is that the Heros Guild is quite litterally the government of Albion. Towns are free to run thier own affairs, however the guild itself IS the military. Albion, was a military state. The way in which taxes were collected was through payment of quests. Quests being tasks for the hero's (a sort of militarized federal government) to complete, these could be helpful or harmful depending on the guilds era.

The term Hero in Fable is best defined by the definition of heroism that has to do with feats of strength as opposed to nobility. To be heroic, or to be a hero, is to possess and utilize great power, but in a way that proves yourself. I believe this is why renown is such an important mechanic in Fable, because it's basically your measure of heroism. Jack of Blades would be considered a hero, because Fable uses an operational definitiom of hero to mean: one who is heroic - which means: capable of great feats of strength/skill/will. He would be considered the "hero of heroes" euphemistically to suggest that his feats of strength are unmatched - even if he's done terrible things. Reaver fits the same profile. He's notorious for abominable things, but he possesses great power.

1:46 apparently he played a decisive role in some great battle in previous decades. The one thing you're told over and over again about Jack is that he is very, very old, older than the trees and mountains, he has, by happenstance done laudable things over that time.

Great Vid. Jack was my favorite villain in any game I’ve ever played. Though I wouldn’t agree he was a hero by conventional definition, he wasn’t really a villain either. He was pure evil In a time when perceptions of an objective morality are becoming antiquated, villains like Lucian and Logan are just downers. I hate having to take down the otherwise good guy who’s forced into making hard decisions because life is complicated and blah blah blah. I can’t stand this trend in game narrative where we have to humanize the villain and make them a sympathetic character. If you don’t have a good or evil antagonist you can’t really have a good or evil protagonist it just makes the whole thing moot. Jack was a perfect villain. By the end of the story you either thought “I have to kill this asshole to save the world.” or “I have to kill this asshole so I can be worse.” “Some men aren’t looking for anything logical they can’t be bought bullied, reasoned, or negotiate with. I don't understand Jack as he is immortal, as are all creatures from the void, no matter how many times the court of blades is abolished they will always return in a different time but, Jack always acted as though he only had one chance to retrieve the sword of aeons. Even if his soul was destroyed in the mask it will recreate over time because the dead are always said to go to the void in the fable universe and recreate himself what does Jack need? An abundance of souls and the rest of the court I assume will need the same so what happened/happens when one or all of them returns/returned? The court of blades will always be the biggest threat in Fable and hopefully we will see him return in the future... if fable doesn't die out first XD

"Hero" were people with superpowers allowing them to harness magic. They literally sucked up energy from the experience they've earned to become incredibly strong, tall/skilled, and wizards.

This might be irrelevant and random, but i'm in the Fables mood. So i've got a fantheory for you. Theresa is the Queen of Blades. In Fable 2, Theresa manipulates literally everyone, Lucian, Hannah, Hero+Rose, etc. She manipulates everyone for the power of the Spire, now why would she need the Spire's power? Either to resurrect the court or to return her full power. Think about it, Theresa survived after 500 years whereas her brother who was MUCH more powerful didn't? Not only that, she can now see through all worlds and why would Theresa need the Spire? Because she DOES manipulate Lucian into building it, but Hero's sister isn't the manipulative type... But the Court certainly are.

I recently played fable 1 this year, and gosh it has rich dark history being that my first fable game was fable 3, i later figured out all the main protagonists were related 😭.

Hero is someone who is powerful in some regard. You can be a max Yellow stat hero who only accepts villinous quests and still be called hero just as often as an All Might styles character

Not gonna lie, I loved your interpretation of Jack of Blades and I think it's adds extra depth to an otherwise somewhat generic prophecy villain. And then I read the comment section, and that ruined it for me. I don't think these guys realize that using lore to discredit any depth and intrigue added to a character actually hurts the content that they're trying to promote.

Hero in the Fable series doesn't necessarily mean "good person". It's used to refer to anyone capable of great deeds, you can go on a murdering spree and become the most evil person in the land, and you'll just earn more renown. Hero of Heroes probably just refers to the fact that Jack is terrifyingly powerful and up to that point no Guild Hero could even be a match for him.

Except the whole point of the fable series is that you can be both a good or an evil hero because the term hero isnt strictly attached to saving people but to fame and power.

In the Fable universe, Hero just means someone with Super Powers. Since the Jack Slayer/Hero of Oakvale died, there was less and less need for them or so people would have rightfully though until the Crawler came along. Firearms made it so that poorly trained peasants with the element of numbers, surprise and the reluctance of many Heroes to defend themselves, Heroes were proven to be easy to kill, thus few could have seen a need for them, and without the Super-Heroes we get to play via the Hero of Bowerstone and the Hero of Brightwall, they aren't wrong. But the word Hero is like Mutant in the Xmen universe.

The fact that people call Jack of Blades a hero is kind of the way things are in OUR world. There are PLENTY of people with statues of themselves on this dreary planet who got famous by doing VERY bad things...

I think everyone with abilities in Albion is just called a hero. It doesn't matter if you are evil or not.

Fable Was a game where player choice mattered. Visualisation was key for this game. Something about appearance towards the player and the people around. Picture another game where your character is a psycho path yet he looks completely normal human. However in fable you have the appearance of the devil himself. "Why are they shitting their pants I don't look that ba...... Oh right the horns" fable is a golden classic that's cursed with old games. Shit devs who improved the wrong things instead of focusing on what the game made you feel like. A courageous hero who will save everyone in need. Or a scum cut throat who enjoys nothing apart form killing innocents for the taste of virgin blood. Fable as the game where it was ok to be a evil cunt. It gave the player "hey you can do the evilest thing in the world for personal gain and power. Would you kill your own blood for that or your own son or daughter. I mostly agree with all the comments saying how the word "Hero" is usually used to simply refer to someone who has the powers of Will/Strength/Skill. However, notice how they call Twinblade an "Ex-Hero" in the game. This would assume that those who go against the Guild completely are in fact ousted as "Heros". The wiki also says how the Court finally broke the minds of Albion after the people resisted their rule for the third time. Being that Jack of Blades is in fact some all-powerful creature from the Void, and he burned down Albion twice and then turned the population insane, I would then lead to this just being a case of the victors re-writing history. When the Court broke the minds of the people, they made the people bow to them and it would then make sense that they twisted things so that they appear to be these benevolent leaders, the greatest of all. Again, if the people actually knew what Jack of Blades was, I feel like he wouldn't be regarded as a Hero, in the sense that the term "Hero" is saved for powerful humans. I'd argue it'd be like calling God a saint. Jack of Blades would be like a god in this scenario, so giving him the title of a worthy human isn't accurate

I read in a book once. the jack of blade the story went Jack would take rescue mission to save a city. on the road away through the woods he found a mask. mask had Evil and power. Jack was possest with the mask and he put the mask on. and he became the jack of blade.

So what exactly is Jack? Most speculate he is a demon of some kind. However, he compares himself to the Gods and Demons of Albion, saying “ the Gods and Demons you fear and worship are as nothing to me!”. That would mean Jack is acknowledging these powerful beings do in fact exist, but he is not one of them. I always thought he was a Demon, just not a Demon native to Albion. Similar to how in Marvel the Elder God Chthon is a demon native to earth, whereas Surtur is a demon native to the Asgard dimension.
