IN THE MOOD FOR BRAGA & VIANA DO CASTELO | Road Trip to the North of Portugal | Travel in Portugal

Braga and Viana do Castelo - two northernmost districts in Portugal that are less explored and traversed by common travellers, but, in fact, are brimming with startling beauty and richly verdant landscapes that will certainly satisfy history and outdoor buffs, gastronomy enthusiasts, as well as nature and wine lovers.
This part of Portugal is also the home to Vinho Verde wine region, the largest denomination of wine production in the country, and one of the oldest and largest in the world. A stunning, eternally lush region famous for such youthful, vibrant and aromatic wines that are beloved around the world.
We hit the road this summer, as we take you to a journey across these regions, from historical Braga to the sights of Viana do Castelo. Then we explored the coastal Caminha, the frontier towns of Monção and Melgaço, and then relished the idyllic atmosphere of the river towns of Ponte da Barca and Ponte de Lima.

Dear Janz, this is where my heart is! Just watching, I feel the memories of my childhood in Summers spent in Minho. My grandma would take us to Moledo Beach & Vila Praia de Ancora, which I ❤ cs of the warmer river water there. And my great-grandma was from Viana and, most importantly and I'm very proud of this, my great-grandfather's firm cut the original road for the basilica of Sta Luzia to be built!! Many decades later, my grandma would take us to the August fest of Sra sa Agonia in August. I still remember a taxi ride up to the cathedral area for us to watch the evening fireworks. Our country house is still there, 20kms from Caminha. And there's a very famous family in Caminha, but I can't give it away publicly. Thank uou so much for this💞 I feel it all in my heart 💗 like I was a kid again!! Biggest hug to you!!

Viana do Castelo was one of my favorite stops when I hiked the Caminho Portugues in 2021. It's very nice to see some of the steps that I walked through.

Can't understand how you went to some places in Minho before going first to the most beautiful and historical of all: Guimarães. The first capital of Portugal, the cradle if the entire nation and also the most beautiful, the most cultural and historical by far in Minho (although Viana do Castelo is also very beautiful). Ponte de Lima is also very pretty, but it's not the oldest town in Portugal, Ponte de Lima is actually a village.
