Porto is a gem of a place, the architecture, the food, the wines and especially the people! There is nothing not to like about any of it.

Fish in Portugal is fantastic and is cooked in the simplest way, with just salt, charcoal and olive oil on the plate. So good

Porto is arguably the most underrated city in Europe. Anyone who hasn't visited is missing out.

First touristical destination for Galicians. We love Porto so much that we sometimes say “Galician most important city” 😍. (Joking). So adorable.

Fish in Portugal is exceptional, and the people are a delight. I was in Lisboa in 1983 and just chatting to some guys fishing in the Tagus with rods close to Cais do Sodré station. They sent me home with a bag full of fish to cook in the Youth Hostel and we feasted that night. I later went up to Porto, but I think most of my refreshments were beer, but I had a fantastic time. That was 40 years ago, but I expect not a lot has changed (apart from getting a lot more expensive than it was in 1983).

Portuguese food is like top 3/top 5 best food in the world, no joke.

So glad Jamie did Porto as it’s such a hidden gem, and amazing that he visited some of the more local places such as Afurada and Matosinhos. Props to the researchers!

I grew up watching Jamie Oliver’s cooking shows with my grandma. It’s one of my most cherished memories. She didn’t live long enough to see him go to her hometown and drink wine with her son’s neighbour ( the port winemaker lives in our building and has been a good family friend for many years now ) ! But man, she would have loved it ! Thank you Jamie !

There is 3 things Porto people have mastered. 1st is cooking, 2nd is drinking, and the 3th is having the most fun possible.

Jamie, am Anglo-Portuguese, my family is from Porto, very much like the places you visited. Pity this was such a rushed visit. Take the kids sometime, check otu the river beaches, there is really nothing like it, avoid August. Perhaps drive inland, Douro, Minho, Marao, Amarante, you will be in heaven, it is uniquely beautiful - because, you have not seen anything seen yet X:)

I am so upset I did not know this was coming... I live in Porto and would of loved to recommend some top spots for local dishes!!! Cheers and glad you liked my adopted city!!! ☺ ☺ Also, The Majestic Cafe is a treasure inside and out and is one of the oldest coffee shops in the country. I have only been once but fell in 😍 😍 Edited: I watched almost all the way through and thought you might be forgetting about the Francesinha but then ya got there =) I am not a big fan of this heartstopper but I KNOW most Portuense ADORE this dish!!!

Jamie, if you're ever back in Porto, check out my favourite restaurant, A Cozinha do Manel on Rua do Heroismo. Nothing flashy or fussy, just great, authentic Portuguese food in a traditional setting. The duck, veal, venison and blood sausage are sensational. Oh, and the goat.

I'm quite glad you're spreading the word about my hometown. It's a city from about 200 B.C.! It's so rich in culinary diversity, traditions, architecture. Its first name was "Portus Cale" (warm harbor), which gave our country the name Portugal. You went to some of my favorite places. To me, there's nothing like eating fish in Afurada. People are very friendly, genuine. It's such a shame Spain takes all the credit for our best products. It's about time we get our incredibly dishes and tourist sites out there. Had I known you were coming here, and I would have provided you with some family warm welcome and meals, full of TLC. Thank you, Jamie, you're such a nice star. PS - 1:27 That António is awesome!! Porto is one of the most underrated cities in Europe, Shame Jamie didn't have time to take a little trip up the Douro river, its just such a beautiful place the north of Portugal .

Thank you Jamie for showing our cuisine. We as Portuguese know that we have one of the best cuisines in the world and it's chefs like you that help to show it to the world because the Portuguese are too humble to do it. Next time do it like a tripeiro ( the gentle name for Porto citizens ) and try a snack called bifana at "Conga Snack Bar" and the pork leg sandwich with mountain cheese in a place called "Casa Guedes". You are in for a treat... And also, thanks for not calling Porto, O-Porto.😉
