_Frontline_ is excellent! Worldwide, the mission of the ‘50s through the ‘70s was to bring power to the grassroots, including through unflinching reporting … and although much of the world backtracked beginning in the ‘80s, seduced by Reagan and Thatcher into a grotesque, acquisitive, unthinking and unfeeling “me first” mentality, _Frontline_ continues to assume viewers are intelligent and humane, and to treat journalism as society’s great equalizer. Bravo _Frontline!_

Some truth was dropped during the debate at the end of this documentary. Sad that just a few years later, that very same mayor ended up getting exposed as a crackhead. On a sidenote, Vinmoonsu, you've got to check out "Wannabe: Life and Death in a Small Town Gang" someone uploaded here on YT. Comedic gold from our friends at PBS🤣

I remember the day when the KKK marched down Constitution Ave. I was 17 years old and the feeling of anger was so intense, it was like fire next to a can of gasoline. There were police in riot gear behind the barricades and the protesters became upset with them even though they were just doing their jobs. It started with yelling, some disrespected by spitting, then, object throwing ensured, followed by many attempts to break down the barricades and got to the KKK, including myself. I was born at Friedman's Hospital in 64 and love DC with all my heart. This documentary really provides more context as to how the Federal government broke apart the power of community organizers by allowing them local positions within the government, but with limited power and resources.

I was born and raised in DC, went to DC public schools. I still consider DC my home. It’s been 40 years since this documentary was aired. I remember all of the city officials featured in this story. Many of the neighborhoods that I’m used to in DC are unrecognizable these days. The people now living on the block I grew up on are predominantly White. The same is true all over the city. Gentrification has dramatically changed the DC landscape. What the poor people were saying 40 years ago has come to fruition. Some neighborhoods have gone from predominantly Black to predominantly White in less than a decade. Public housing has been torn down and replaced with townhouses and superstores. I can only imagine what my birthplace will look like over the next decade.
@carminecampfiresong6 ай бұрын
Sounds great. But wouldn't you people also complain when they move away from you? It's gentrification or it's white flight, either way we're the bad guys huh?
@jayhendricks675 ай бұрын
But you know what I noticed is that I see all these white people living in our neighborhoods I never see them ĝoing to the same grocery stores that are in the neighborhoods they know something alot of us don't know they go to whole foods or trader Joe's i never seen them in Giant Foods or Wal-Mart they'll go to VA or nicer areas in the Dmv area
