Incorporating the Sizzix Into Glass Fusing - Part One: Cutting the Materials

In this video I am showing how I cut several different materials to use in glass fusing projects. I’ve had my Sizzix Big Shot for several years, long before owning a Cricut. I couldn’t find a link to the exact model I have, but a quick online search for “Sizzix Big Shot” and you will find various current models of the Sizzix machines. I will include links below for the dies used in the video as they are still available. I’m also including links to the 1/8” fiber sheets and the No Days Powder Wafer material.

Please note - this roll I was using in this video was purchased a few years ago and had started to breakdown, this is not usually the case and could have just been a fluke roll as well. I am not sure of the shelf life but I used some purchased at the same time not long ago and it worked just fine.

When using your Big Shot, it isn’t “weight” you need to get a clean, crisp cut, it’s “pressure “ that you need. So, in order to get a good cut, simply adding a piece of card stock will give you the pressure you need for a crisp cut. Sometimes you may need to fold the card stock in half to get the thickness you need. The rubber mat is used with Sizzix Texturz thin dies for embossing your paper instead of cutting it. The hard plate plate would have worked better if it wasn’t too thick. Sometimes all you need is just another piece of heavy card stock to make a huge difference in the pressure needed for a crisp cut! This makes me sad that all of my cutting machines (I literally have them ALL) are in storage! But I DO have my cricut machine and my Silhouette machine so I can cut the No Days Adhesive I literally just got in the mail last week! I LOVE your videos. I’m very new to glass and I have learned a LOT from your videos. Thank you for sharing your experience and your knowledge with us!❤

My sizzex is really old, but I love it, with the left overs of the thin fire I use decorative scissors or tear it very carefully and use them in the kiln as well, add some paint or powders on them and you get a great leaf shadow

For foils I add a piece of copy paper under and on top of the die

That’s why they put the little holes in the back…so you can pock through them to release the paper, etc.🤗. Don’t pick through the front of the die as you risk ruining your die cut.😱

Why don't you dry the Sizzex on you heating element? And THEN run it though your machine?

Hi Dwight, I’m not quite sure what you mean. The point of this series on the Sizzix and glass fusing was to show the versatility of using the Sizzix, by demonstrating multiple things that can be done. Too often we buy tools whether in a craft or even in our kitchen that we might only use for one purpose, and it’s always a bonus to find multiple uses to get out money’s worth. Please explain more, I’m curious what is meant by my “whole shop.” Thanks!
