Incorporating the Sizzix into Glass Fusing - Part Two: Using the Die Cuts

This is part two of a three-video series. In this video I go through the following processes:
- Heat activating No Days Powder Wafers
- Using an adhesive vinyl stencil to apply mica paint to glass
- Using a Versamark pad to apply powdered mica
- Etching dichroic glass using the cutouts from stencils
- Screening over a stencil with powder onto glass
- Traditional Powder Wafers using stencils & powders
- Freeze and Fuze using a handmade mold cut of foam board
- Painting onto ThinFire and Papyros cutouts using Glassline paints
- Filling a flower-shaped fiber cutout (dam) with chopped cane/milifiore
Stay tuned for the third and final video in this series, planned for just after Christmas as I have a few firings to get through to complete everything. That final video will include firing schedules and a look at all finished pieces.

What do you mix with Mica powder to create the paint?

Hi, I mixed with a powdered white flux I bought with the micas and A14 liquid medium, purchased from Kaiser Glass. (Barry Kaiser and his wife, her name escapes me at the moment.) But the last time I went to buy more it wasn’t on their website at kaiserglass.com.

So, you can actually use those large ceramic tiles as kiln shelves? I have a ton of them that I use with polymer clay. Kiln shelves are so expensive!

I have heard use unglazed. I’m not sure what glazed would do, but I’ve used glazed ceramic dishes as slumping molds. I just sprayed them with ZYP. If your tiles are glazed (or even if not) you can always pop them into the kiln and test them without anything on them. If glazed I don’t see why you couldn’t just cover with ThinFire or Papyros. I’ve got a small 6” unglazed tile I’ve used several times and it holds up great.

It’s called a WaxVac, there are other brands too. I used to see them all the time in the “As seen on TV” areas in stores like Walgreens, Target, etc. but a while back mine died so I was looking and wasn’t finding any local but found some on eBay. They’re made for ear wax…. I don’t know if they work well for that but they are great for picking up powder and frit. I use a little piece of a dryer sheet as I didn’t have any coffee filters to protect the inner area but I think some powder still gets sucked in there. Hope that helps!
