Combining Glass Fusing & Sublimation Printing

In this video I am combining my love of glass fusing with the fun of sublimation! The design I used for sublimation is available from Design Bundles, here is a link:

This is not my original idea of applying vinyl to glass and then sublimating - I originally learned from a great step-by-step video by Roger's Shop. After seeing the success I had with Dollar Tree cutting boards, I wondered if the process could translate to fused glass, and to my delight, it does! Here is the video I watched to learn the process:

Please note, this is not a regular ink jet print, this was done using an Epson ET-15000. NOTE - there is a typo on the Materials & Tools slide where I say it’s an Epson ET-1500, should have said 15000. This is a larger format printer (13”x19”) that was converted to a sublimation printer. There are many videos out there on doing that. I never put the original Epson ink in, instead I filled it with sublimation ink from Cosmos Ink. The paper I use is A-Sub, and you can find it on Amazon.

As I've been experimenting, I've decided that the tape is the least expensive part of this, so I use it fairly liberally!

TEN MINUTES in the heat press??? I never would have guessed. That may very well be part of my problem. (Well, that and my general ineptitude.)

My first pieces that were larger were between 8-10 minutes. 6 they were still a bit cloudy. And it makes sense as you’re using thicker glass doing this than a single layer of window pane or Dollar Tree cutting board.

Jackie, you are BRILLIANT! I have been trying to figure out how to do something similar, lol! I recently got into sublimation too and have all of the goodies as well, lol! I've been fusing for over 12 years and that is my passion, but this is so exciting (and relatively inexpensive!) to be able to combine both loves. I couldn't get my brain to get past the vinyl on the BACK and how it would allow the image to show through the front of the glass. You have given me such inspiration, as do all of your awesome fusing vids! By the way, for the magnets, did you buy the small or medium rounds you can glue on, or did you buy the magnetic sheets (maybe 3/4-1mm thick) and put those through your Cricut? (Not sure my Air Explore 2 would cut that). Just curious, I'm good with the ones you can buy at Walmart for a song and gluing them on. Thanks again, this was just brilliant❣

Thank you! I just glued little round magnets onto the back using 2 part epoxy. I’ve not tried magnetic sheets. I know what you mean about trying to wrap your head around the white vinyl on the back. When I first watched a video of the process I was blown away and thought how can that work??!! But it’s like magic. You may need to experiment with time and temp of press but this thickness seems to work well with mine at 10 minutes/385. Glad you liked this!

I have trouble cutting 6mm clear. Do you have any tips?

I just use my strip cutter and score and then used my regular breaking pliers vs. the small ones I usually like. I recently bought heavy duty breaking pliers and found they were overkill! I shattered a piece into several pieces so I went back to my regular ones.

I think I listened closely but did not hear you say about how much pressure you used. I saw that you felt like you had too much to start and you backed it off a bit, but do you know roughly how many pounds of pressure you had?

Hi Judy - I don’t know as there’s nothing to tell me but just where the press handle went down and it felt snug but I didn’t have to exert any physical pressure to snap the handle down to start the timer. Hope that helps!
