Apple cider Vinegar and/or real green tea 🍵(preferably cold as too much hot can cause inflammation/agitation in the stomach) has worked wonders for me as far as engaging my endurance lately and has me feeling like a teenager in the gym now.

I wasn't aware of this but have been drinking baking soda infused water during my workouts as I felt that working out made my tummy acid... almost throwing up or something. So, I've been doing this for a few months and I had never felt so much energy at working out. This video just popped up in my KZfaq and wow... this is truly legit!

I've been taking a tsp of food grade baking soda 30 minutes before workout. I weigh 205lbs and it's been working really well. I also use Celtic salt dissolved in my water bottle that I drink during workout. I always do this on an empty stomach and eat post workout. Great results so far.

Can taking magnesium or potassium bicarbonate help to lower high lactic acid levels? And should any bicarbonate mixture be taken away from food to prevent neutralizing HCL in the stomach needed for digestion?

There are studies that use potassium bicarbonate with good effect. Here's an example: www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6266022/ With regards to timing, most research shows the most benefit if it is taken between 2-3 hour before exercise with a small carbohydrate meal. The food is typically suggested to decrease the chances of GI upset so we have many athletes test this and most are able to take it without food. Thank you!

The acid in the vinegar will neutralize the bicarbonate so it can't neutralize the acids produced from exercise. It would defeat the purpose explained here.

i used for my 400 m and 400 Hurdles, helps a lot to minimize lactic acid, i improve my PB my weight is 58 Kg so i take 20 gr on 1 liter 90 minutes before

I am trying this later for my run. I’m on vacation and what I tend to do on vacation is lift in the morning and then relax etc with family then I’ll go for a run mid-afternoon then the gym again. My question is can I take a bit of BS before my run and a little more before the gym again? Edit: I’ve been taking this ever since. Holy SHIT it works so well for me. I’m adding some beet powder and a little bit of honey to it today and we’ll see how that goes 💪🏼

When you advise to take the baking soda 90 minutes and then 30 minutes before your event. Would that be a full dosage at the 90 minute mark and another full dosage at the 30 minute mark. Or one full dosage split between the two times

+Daniel Murphy thanks for the question. Once you use the formula to decide on the amount, that amount is taken at both 90 minutes and 30 minutes. As discussed in the video, the recommendation is to start with .1 or less rather than the .2 or .3 amounts.

I typically have a routine before races where I consume coffee about 30 minutes prior, along with either a banana or sometimes bread 60min before. Now, I'm curious about incorporating bicarbonate into my pre-race snacks regimen. Could you please break down how I should approach this? yes and no. the bicarbonate only lasts for one workout but the better workout increases stamina more

I took baking soda yesterday instead of coffee and my whole day was full of getting stuff done, washed the car, cleaning windows, stayed close to the house with no anxiety, also did around 50 push-ups and squats, had low hunger, felt great all day.

Regarding the amount of water: start with 8oz but you may need to increase it if you have unpleasant stomach issues. Potassium Bicarbonate: I can't find any studies on potassium bicarbonate improving performance. Event Optimization: You can your coach will need to work out an optimal protocol for you based on your physiology and experience with using it in training.

Hi, thanks for the very informative video. I've been searching a video for a detail explanation on this topic and yours is the best I could find. My question is, you said its best to be taken on an empty stomach. I'm a powerlifting athlete so the training sessions usually last 2+ hours and are very demanding, thus having a pretty big meal one hour before hand is crucial. how would you recommend I adjust to still be able to use baking soda to increase performance while still being able to eat enough food before my training sessions? Duzbionjit Singh Most of the studies have participants ingesting baking soda 90 minutes before and 30 minutes before. Feel free to experiment with the timing based on when you are eating. As mentioned, it's best to take on an empty stomach because taking the baking soda with food can impact digestion. If you are eating an hour before your session, having baking soda 90 minutes before training should be fine. If you are having a big meal, having the baking soda 30 minutes prior to training could decrease acid and digestion. The best answer is for you to experiment with the second ingestion. Since your sessions are 2+ hours, experiment with having soda at the start of your session. Start with a small amount and adjust timing and amount based on how you respond and perform.

Surely Hydrochloric Acid in the stomach will counteract the effects of the baking soda and if for whatever reason it didn’t; the baking soda would interfere with digestion, not allowing food to be broken down for it’s nutrients by Hydrochloric Acid.

A lot of guys say baking soda also helps with pumps when lifting weights. I would imagine this is because the drop in PH causes your body to pull more water into your blood to maintain proper PH. Not sure if that is actually what is happening. Probably not a good idea for someone with high blood pressure already.

The reason why people have high blood pressure is usually associated with mild to severe dehydration. This causes a higher concentration of sodium in the body. Due to the lack of hydration the body pulls the water (water retention) and is unable to dilute the sodium. Staying completely away from any form of diuretics is potentially the key to reversing this.

320speed I started with one eighth tsp soaked in a glass of water over night. Drink in the morning, empty stomach. it is important to soak, I do not know why. I have noticed much less joint pain right away. I am up to tsp now.

Sooo an empty stomach 90 minutes before a workout? Which really means you shouldn’t eat for about 2-1/2 hours before so like should we not eat for 3-4 hours before a long endurance training session? How does one eat around this schedule I’m definitely trying to get my cardio up as an mma fighter. Maybe something quickly digestible?

Normally the guidelines on baking soda are 90 minutes or so before a workout so it depends on your program. Obviously, one of the concerns with mixing them is stomach irritation so we would recommend keeping them separate or being very cautious with the amount of baking soda in the beginning. Thanks

Sorry to hear that. It's a fairly common occurrence which usually means that you will need to start with a much lower amount. Different people have differing levels of sensitivity so we would recommend cutting the amount by 75-80% for the first week. We would recommend this approach as opposed to sublingual. Thank you.

​@@320speed I'm just starting now with 1/3 tsp in 4-6 ounces of water. I will increase as I become comfortable at a given dose. My goal is 3 tsp stretched out over a day. Maybe that is 1 tsp 3x per day, or 1/2 tsp 6x a day. I only ingest Bob's Red Mill because it is naturally procured and not chemically manufactured.

Last comment I swear. People always say "clear this with your healthcare provider" before doing it. Does anyone actually ever do that? I know when I have asked my doctors about anything dealing with supplements or things like this baking soda - they are completely clueless. They react in one of two ways. The first way, is they give me the stink eye like "what kind of nonsense are you up to?" and ask me why in the world I would want to do that. The second way is they feign curiosity and I explain the what and why and they say "I don't know". Medical doctors contrary to popular belief don't know everything about everything. Being a doctor is like any other profession - some people love it and continually seek out further knowledge and training but not everyone. A lot of doctors become doctors because of their prestigious status and earning potential. I think maybe half of all doctors actually care about helping people or are even genuinely interested in their job. So if you find a doctor that will give you more than 15 minutes every six months and that keeps updated on new information, training, research, etc. and collaborates with you then hang on to them because they are far and few between.

However, that is the amount used in the studies so yes in general that amount "should" be ok in general. My friend you made a wrong calculation and I tell you why.. Point. 2 means 0.2 gram..no like u said 2g per body weight Now I wait 72 kg and l use point 3 g basically 0.3g per body weight, multiple 72 kg is 2.16 g basically a small tea spoon.. If I would take 21.6g i would have some vary bad discomfort like a diarrhea and more.. Now usually everyone start with 1 tea spoon max 2 and job done..

72kg x 0.3g = 21.6 grams. His calculation is fine. The secondary point of the video was to tell people to start around 0.1g/kg body weight (7.2g for you) and build up a tolerance until you can do 21g.

Baking soda in water plain tastes AWFUL!!! I am able to down it but I can tolerate some pretty awful-tasting things in the name of performance enhancement. You can take baking soda in place of Tums if you have heartburn and don't have anything else. I tried to have my wife do that one time when she had heartburn and just the taste nearly made her throw up!
