Today's video is a breakdown on some basics with the guillotine choke from one of my recent BJJ classes I taught to a group of mostly White Belts. In the video I'll go over some basics on how to setup a guillotine choke from Full Guard using a Kimura Sweep and then lots of details on how to finish it.
For many people getting a catch on the guillotine isn't too hard. But finishing it can be another story. So hopefully, if this is the case for you, this video will give you some adjustments you can make to improve the finish percentage with your guillotine chokes.
Also, as an aside. If you'd like to see a great guillotine choker in Brazilian Jiu-jitsu. Check out my buddy Josh Hinger. He's got one of the nastiest guillotines in the business and has tested it at the highest levels of BJJ.
Thanks for watching.

I'm still new, and only lately started tapping people and staring to get a better grasp of the fundamentals and surviving. Loving these videos, and the cues you use such as rocking the baby are great! 💯👌

A lot of times people let their necks get away from them. It makes the guillotine an awesome option. I learned to keep my neck tight to avoid that after getting caught in guillotines way to often.

Chewy: I always seem to be better at doing techniques from one side of my opponent than the other, but see the higher belts are ‘ambidextrous’, and can pull off moves flowing easily from both sides. When should I start to address the ‘weaker’ side of my game? Solidify my game from my naturally good side and address the weak side later, or try to do both now? Doing both seems a bit too much for my brain at the moment! I’m a 2 stripe white belt. Thanks! Lee from England.

Start doing it right away, you'll always have a dominant side but you need to be comfortable on the offf-side. It's much harder to remove the issue on start than to try and force something into your "style" later on.

Outside of the mounted triangle where my bodyweight can be helpful the guillotine has to be my favorite choke.

Is your arm doing all the choking, or is it your arm pressed to one side of the neck and your body that is pressing against choking the other side?
