This brought so many memories. My parents have been in the charcoal-making business for over 30 years here in Ghana and my siblings and I have been sponsored from nursery through the university from this job. I have participated in cutting down trees, burning, packing, distributing, and selling charcoal for as long as a can remember. And just like this wonderful woman, I am also a Sisali from the Upper West Region. I am currently a software engineer.

Women used to be housewives and when they became widows or divorced they had nothing. Yes most of these should have been done by men but I believe these women do it to take care of their children and make a living.

Taty! Amazing amazing amazing💥💥💥! And I say this because your content is diverse. I mean sorting out how charcoal is made is the ultimate, given how charcoal is essential to cooking in many a Ghanaian household. And your depiction of the charcoal making process is super on point. It is a very labor intensive activity, which I do not think many are aware of💪🏿. And the whole process shows how intelligent and thoughtful we are as a people comes through the camera. And as usual you documentation and the telling of the story was super well done. Not sure if you are aware, but some are trying to replicate your style and topics but you are unique in carrying stories and weaving a tale. You are unsurpassed now and forever! Your content is just fire🔥. Again many thanks for showcasing and profiling those who under "regular" circumstances receive no press or media attention. We are better people for viewing your clips. Keep the content coming!

Another excellent video. Pardon my naevity, I respectably would like to know if there are gender roles in Ghana, I ask this question because most of the activities that I see women doing there are tasks that men perform in Jamaica. Charcoal burning is very labor intensive and difficult basedon my experience at my grandparents when I was much younger. Men and men alone does this kind of work in Jamaica. 🇯🇲

We call the skin of the tree "tree bark". But you must always use it as "tree bark" because we also use the word "bark or barking" for the sound dogs make. The dog is barking. Great video.

Yeah, this is a common problem in Ghana and Africa. A lot of third world countries are stuck in gender roles with women doing most of the work. I believe the CIA even wrote a paper on this about the effect of this in the USA African American community, where also the women do all the work.

I am heartbroken. Particularly because I was a stay home wife and mother for several years to a very successful Ghanian man. We divorced and he continued to support us until his death. I am seriously concerned about these women. It's not fair to them or the children.
