Carl Sommer, president of Reliable EDM, demonstrates the incredible capabilities of electrical discharge machining. To prove non-contact EDM, Sommer does an experiment showing a wire EDM machine cutting a piece of unclamped aluminum.
To demonstrate non-contact small hole EDM, Sommer does the same by taking a 1/4” steel plate, and without clamping, drills a hole through the part. He also demonstrates non-contact small hole EDM by drilling with a .010” electrode through the side of a large ball bearing.
