The little girl holding the picture is Ronnie Van Zant’s granddaughter. It’s a picture of him. The original guitar player, Jasin Todd, was married to Ronnie’s daughter

You just saw a young Brent Smith. Lynyrd Skynyrd and Shinedown came out of Jacksonville Florida. Brent has sung with Lynyrd Skynyrd several times they gave Shinedown this song and they sing it at every concert. 🔥🔥

*Jasin Todd (guitarist for Shinedown at this time) is married to Melody Van Zant. Melody is Ronnie Van Zants daughter (Ronnie was the singer for Lynyrd Skynyrd). The little girl holding Ronnie's picture in the video is his granddaughter. Everyone from Shinedown and Skynyrd have been friends for years. Nobody could have covered this song as great as Shinedown did.*

How is Shinedown connected to Lynyrd Skynyrd? For people who don't know, Jasin Todd, who was on the first two records, he was married to Melody Van Zant, which was Ronnie Van Zant's daughter. And so the reality is that the lineage between Skynyrd and Shinedown is very real. And um, we are very much family.

What a beautiful version of this classic song by Shinedown. Love the power & control in his voice. I have always loved this song by Lynyrd Skynyrd from 1973 & the beautiful message it conveyed of a mother giving advice to her son.

You should check out Falling in Reverse "Last Resort"(Reimagined), I guarantee you will appreciate this cover of Papa Roach's iconic song. However if you're going to start the Falling in Reverse rabbithole, I'd recommend starting with Popular Monster, then Zombified, Voices in My Head, Watch the World Burn and finally ending this cycle with Last Resort. They have many other fantastic songs as well, bit these 5 go together 1 after the other pretty much perfectly!

I agree with both of you. I like this version better than the original because of his clear, strong vocals and it’s stripped down acoustic sound. They brought this song back when it was needed, amongst the chaos of a new generation.

These guys are amazing. You should check out "What a Shame". Teaches that people shouldn't judge or shame each other. You don't know a person's story, or what they might be going through. Very powerful song and message

I heard this on the "live planet of sound" recording done by the (former😢) CT rock station 106.9 WCCC way before it was recorded for an album. That station was one of the last non-corporate radio stations in the country! It will be missed!

WCCC was an excellent station. I grew up with it in the 70s and 80s. Sad to see it go. I haven't lived there in 30 years, but I see t-shirts every once in a while.

The lead singer got to sing with Lynyrd Skynyrd a week before the last founding member Guitarist and Co-Writer of Simple Man Gary Rossington passed away. Ronnie Van Zant the lead singer and founder of the band never wrote his lyrics down. When he sang he meant every word. Ronnie died in a plane crash in 1977 with 2 other band members and their road manager.

Hello you two great reactors, it's your favourite English menace lol Billy, I'm catching up on your reactions, on Fleetwood mac now, just watched Rhiannon, wow what a song, just brilliant, you mentioned the guitarist Lindsey Buckingham, very very underrated, hes up there with the very best and without sounding big headed over the years I've seen what are sosay the best,,so with that in mind can I request I'm so afraid, from the concert by Fleetwood mac called the Dance, possibly one of if not the best guitar solo ever, hey I know that's some statement but see what you both think, his guitar is by the looks of it custom made, he never used a plectrum it's all finger picking, really hope you do this reaction as you both will definitely love it, take care both, keep up the great work, yours the menace English Billy.

Released 7 albums. I think 2 live ones. Shinedown is part of Lynyrd Skynyrd family. that’s Ronnie’s( lead singer of LS) son in law Shinedown’s guitarist Jason Todd. And That’s Ronnie’s granddaughter Melody holding his picture. ( Ronnie was killed in a plane crash.) Brent Smith stayed with them for awhile. This was a thank you to Judy (Ronnie’s widow.) He gave her the royalties from simple Man 💯🔥🔥🔥🔥

l has both versions and actually prefer shinedown's version brent smith's voice be epic and after hearin shinedown's version l find lynyrd skynyrd's version to be a bit slow the little girl be ronnie's grandaughter aria van zant-todd she was 3 there she now be 14 and the dame lookin at herself in the piece of broken mirror be ronnie's daughter melody van zant-todd(aria's mother)

This is a very good version of the original. But I prefer Ronnie and Lynryd Skynryds original as Ronnie did not have to scream it to convey the message of the song.

I agree, but I think they originally were paying tribute to the guitarist’s father-in-law, Ronnie Van Zant. Ronnie’s granddaughter is holding his picture in the video.

Like they said it was only meant as a thank you to Ronnie's widow and when they were at Boston radio station they wanted them to sing a cover acoustic & that was the only one he knew. They sang it 1 time live & it blew up the stations web page & was downloaded 500,000 times so they put it on their deluxe edition.

at the risk of upsetting people I don't think much of this. Ronnie sang this as if he was having a conversation with his mother, this version seems to me like he's yelling at his mother or she's yelling at him. probably over thinking it but love Skynyrd's original don't like this.
