There is a Creative mode where you can place any tile anywhere. And for the buildings you don’t have to have the required tiles needed for it. You can just place them wherever.

I would say its a more casual experience? From when I played the demo, dorfromantik I have to think a lot while the fact that rotation doesn't matter makes this more calm make something pretty kinda thing. Also lost interest faster cause I felt the decisions turned very samey.

I mean, yes and no. Dorfromantik is more so about completing areas as soon as possible whereas this game has you working towards a bunch of long term goals. You’re also heavily encouraged in this game to chain together the same areas as much as possible. It’s the same style of game, but just with different rule sets and strategies to consider.

If anything, Dorfromantik is most like Carcassonne; you have to be really good at making short term decisions in order to master it…….. ……..Unless you’re like me and suck at doing that, in which case I rely heavily on farmland in Carcassonne. 😂😂😂

This game iterates enough to not be a direct ripoff. Yes, it is a tile placing world builder like Dorfromantik. But they play decently different. Dorf gets its challenge from proper tile edge alignment and having to plan around rivers and rails which have forced edge alignment, neither of which this game has. Dorf is also a fairly simple game in terms of mechanics, and you're only ever dealing with a single tile at a time along with isolated quests, with quests being the only way to get more tiles. In contrast, this game only wants you matching like with like, regardless of edge alignment, has multi-tile quests that may contain multiple quests at once, has tiles that upgrade and become worth more points, and has buildings. The buildings not only force you to create certain patterns of tiles, they also have active effects that alter the game state AND are the only way to get more tiles in the same vein as Dorfs quests. We're not in the 1990's anymore where every game is called a Doom clone just because it's a first person shooter. Someone taking a basic idea and expanding on it doesn't make it a ripoff.
