I bought fungus amungus and listened to it a thousand times. It actually makes me sad and disappointed that nothing else this band did was anywhere close to as good as that album. The more popular they got I just became more bitter. Not even at incubus themselves, but just the overall idea that you have to put out pop shit to have a career. Or at least, in the early 2000s that’s how it was. I think incubus just stopped trying to be original or interesting when they realized they could make way more money doing way less interesting songs. This song is a perfect example. You can see how they are toying with trying to sound more like the Backstreet Boys because showing off your abs sells records. Incubus is just one of those bands that I hate because they could have been so much better, and were so much better, than what they ultimately turned into.

Definitely their best work. That whole album has a very distinct feel from beginning to end. It reminds me of having the perfect, chilled-out lifestyle. Living by the beach in a beautiful, pristine area that's also close to the city so you have the best of both worlds. Just being on the outskirts so you can surf and be by the beach whenever you want while still having the city and suburbs right down the street.

The stuff they were making when they were teenagers on S.C.I.E.N.C.E. like A Certain Shade of Green, Nebula, Summer-Romance (Anti-Gravity Love Song) which is actually very well suited to a live acoustic version.

The thing I love about this band is that their sound is so clearly influenced by their recording process. Always love to get back into Incubus; they have such a diverse, yet immensely recognizable sound compared to all the other bands out there. A song that really showcases a softer side to them is _Adolescents_ off of If Not Now, When? I saw a few others have recommended _Wish You Were Here,_ which has phenomenal vocals on it. Thanks, Geebz! Keep on rockin', awwwright!

Incubus was one of the bands I tried to use to show my kids that bands tend to have a "sound" that is distinctively theirs despite what songs and tracks it might be. That when you're familiar with their "sound" you can tell when a song is theirs even if you've never heard it before. Linkin Park was another example I used at that time for them.
@JaySay
@JaySay 3 жыл бұрын
@@jessicashenefield1546 Oh yeah, not only Chester and Mike, but all of the members with Linkin Park made that band stand out just as much as Nirvana did. I remember when my dad was teaching me guitar when I was younger, he was telling me to listen out for different guitarists "sounds" as I got more of an ear for playing. There are so many phenomenal musicians out there that can play in such a direct style that you recognize them by what they play, it's crazy.

These guys don’t get enough credit because so many people know only their pop hits like Drive. (Not that their pop hits aren’t amazing in their own right.) They are a crazy eclectic band though. They touch on prog rock, funk metal, nu metal, jazz, pop, electronic, R&B, and even Chinese traditional music on one account. They love changing their sound and pushing boundaries and are incredibly smart and well adjusted. Their guitarist, Mike Einziger, even went to Harvard! I can’t say enough good about them. I hope you’ll do some deeper cuts too - Crowded Elevator or Deep Inside would be cool. As far as relative hits, Sick Sad Little World has an epic guitar solo.

Mike Einziger is the guitarist. He was the reason i picked up a guitar after listening to the SCIENCE album when i was 12. That arrangment you heard was actual strings but when they play it live DJ Kilmore has it as a sample on a vinyl to scratch and play with and then let play through when its time at the end. The bass players name is Dirk Lance. Look him up. When he left the band in 2002 a big part of Incubus died. The funk and soul part of the sound has been missing a lot since then. Not saying they haven't had good songs but his presence on the bass for them was otherworldly.

This song is such a great vibe, such a laid back, chill song, and just reminds me of kicking back with friends and having a good time. Sounds like a mandolin mixed in the outro too with the twangy sound, never noticed it til now. Just to suggest another one to the mountainous list you have, if you love songs with space, especially acoustic, have a look at "The one you are looking for isn't here" by Katatonia, the Dethroned and Uncrowned version, it's simply magnificent how much room is made in that song to let the vocals breathe and really pull you in, as well as some simply beautiful harmonies. Awwright!

You should check out Devin Townsend - Genesis. If you like prog mixed with metal, funk, jazz, electronic and operatic vocals all in one song you will enjoy! The man is btrue musical genius, a real modern day Frank Zappa. In fact on his latest album be collaborated with some of Zappa's band

Incubus is classic. Anything off of S.C.I.E.N.C.E. is a must listen, as well! One composer I'd like to hear you dive into is Celldweller. The man is a machine with how intricate he layers everything. Check out "Down To Earth" or "Jericho". You'll love it!

Incubus did a song for Halo 2 called 'Follow'. Very different vibe from most else from them but worth checking out. Also, the song 'Outliers Retrospect' by the band AVIATIONS. 🤘

I remember trying to learn this song to cover in high school. Obviously I could never play the guitar like Einziger, but I could play the chords well enough to make the song recognizable. What prevented my band from ever performing is was our complete inability to substitute Brandon Boyd's incredible voice. 😝 I'll echo what Sebastian Halpin says and point out the "The Warmth" is another amazing Incubus song.

Tnank you for doing this one! Amazing track! One of their greatest, IMO. My first concert was the Black Sabbath reunion tour, in 1999. Incubus opened for Pantera, who opened for Black Sabbath - It was epic.

You talking about the guitar is awesome. As a guitar player I can tell you that this song is incredible. It is "simple" just a few chords, but damn are they weird ones and changing between them is awkward as hell. it is an incredible song from a band with a seemingly endless supply of incredible songs.

Mike Einziger is super creative. You should take a look at array of effects pedals he uses. Other really great and impactful songs from Incubus are Under My Umbrella, The Warmth and 11am.
