It's super cool to see Taiwanese literature being highlighted on booktube! I would recommend The Man with the Compound Eyes by Wu Ming-Yi if you want a second book set in Taiwan/by a Taiwanese author. It's really weird (in a good way) and has a lot of environmentalist themes.

My favourite book is from a Taiwanese author actually. I can highly recommend " Notes of a Crocodile" by Qiu Miaojin! There are only 2 of her works translated into English but she as an author is extremely interesting. She is the first openly lesbian (but not the first LGBTQ) author from the arguably most queer friendly country in Asia nowadays. In both of her books she shows life as a queer woman in Martial and post-Martial Taiwan. Her second and last book parallels her own life, being in toxic relationsships, going to France to study literature - the place she sadly ended her own life back in 1995.

Hi!! I'm wrapping up my Master's right now and was largely able to maintain a reading schedule during my undergrad and Master's program. I made sure I set aside some time for myself every single night so I could read. Even just a few pages or a chapter. You are human outside of your studies, so don't forget to take time to do the things you enjoy!

Highly recommend anything by Qiu Miaojin if you're still looking for Taiwanese authors. Last Words from Montmartre is my personal fave. It's also so characterized by Paris of the 1990s and Qiu's comparisons to growing up in Taipei of the 1980s and her love of Tokyo, and I always thought it'd be a cool read for anyone who's lived in Paris

I hope you’ll cover Detransition Baby on your main channel to get it in front of more people. It was really difficult for me to read - but I realized quickly it was hard to read because despite thinking of myself as a trans ally, I still have a lot of preconceived notions in my head. The book challenged me on that; it required that I keep my mind REALLY OPEN. Every time it would start to sink back into stereotypes/gender norms, I’d start tripping over words or not understanding the complexity of passages and I’d have to go back and try again. It’s an important read because it’s not a “simple” portrayal of trans folk. It’s very complicated and all the experiences portrayed are valid, even though they don’t fit into expectations.

You should be on the lookout for a book by Argentinian author Camila Sosa Villada, it’s called “Las malas”. The author is also trans and the book tells about the lives of a group of trans prostitutes working at a park in Cordoba, Argentina. It’s beautifully narrated, I’m not sure if it has been translated into English yet, if not the English version is supposed to be released pretty soon!
