It's not about soppy notions of "people changing over time". It's about what you can do now and what are your priorities and obligations. Mujibur Rehman was responsible in some way for direct action day. But later on he became greatly useful to split Pakistan apart and reduce their power by more than half. At that point our priorities in dealing with him changed. If he didn't become useful to our aims, and if we could punish him for his past mistakes, it would be incumbent on us to punish him. Pakistan was always in trouble and today is not a different story. They are smart enough to sort the adverse situation. But if this agreement creates a good atmosphere all around, it is fine. Let us review this by July 2021!

As explained by the guest that long pending territorial dispute between India-Bangladesh has been settled where the latter has earned more out of it. By giving away a swath of land,what we have achieved is a long term friend(to use it euphemisticly ). Why can't same logic be applied in solving India-China dispute.? i.e. simple solution can be give some take some.

Abhijeet - I think India Pakistan can never have peace unless one party completely dominates the other or both have 50-50 (equal) power equation. Plus what is the leverage in the situation. I mean, was the India Pakistan problem so superficial that one fine day you can just sing kumbaya and make peace. I think symbolism and lofty talks will NEVER get us peace. Only strength and force will. Peace will come through a combination of military and political victory of India. Otherwise peace is just all talk. As Prince Bismarck said...the greatest problems of our times will be solved by the sword !

First time ,I have to vehemently disagree with Abhijit. I have a very close relative in a higher position in MEA .According to him we had to get the peace deal going with Pakistan because their was a looming danger of Pakistan jumping into Ladakh dispute with China and pretty much open a two front war situation for India which our economy is no position to bear. He said Indian external/foreign debt is at the whooping high of 556 billion usd ,our current GDP is trying to recover from the severe setback faced last year due to covid where 23% of our economy contracted. A two front war with China and Pakistan would have proved to be the last straw on the camel back and our economy would be completely shattered like it was in early mid 70s and early 80s.

There cannot be peace with Pakistan as long Pakistan exists as a nation. The reason is Pakistan was carved out of India on the basis of religion and hatred towards Hindus. If Pakistan becomes friendly with India, the very existence of Pakistan comes into question. What will the bloated army of Pakistan will do? It has been growing in numbers even after loss of half of Pakistan's territory in 1971.

Firstly, Pakistan is seeing a mass apostasy from Islam. So before any peace process between non-Muslims and Muslims, they need to leave Islam(secretly and also openly) and become Human beings first.
