The latest episode of Battle Cry offers detailed insights into India's seemingly stumbling big drone effort. Taking a deep dive into the situation, the show focuses on India's biggest drone program, the Tapas drone, which may have encountered a significant setback. The discussion revolves around India's potential drone crisis and its scarcity of homegrown drones. The episode explores the ambitious Tapas program, its lofty goals, and unexpected challenges, culminating in a sobering crash landing. The discussion also throws light on the rise of a new Indian drone, the Archer-NG. The segment presents a reality check on India's current efforts to boost the numbers of advanced drones and presents an overview of different procurement programs. The episode invites experts to comment on why India's drone development has struggled and what could be done to address this issue, such as opening up to the private sector and promoting collaborations. #IndianDrones #Battlecry #DroneProgram #MilitaryDrone #PredatorDrones #UAV #Aviation #shivaroor

We are abandoning 90% completed TAPAS and going for Archer which is still on drawing board. A foolish decision. It's wise to resolve issues with TAPAS and make it successful. Otherwise TAPAS is heading Marut way.

Historically an Israeli man invented the 1st drone. Since then Israel is a global leader in drone development & tech. India already collaborates with Israel on military issues so why not on drones ! India builds fighter jets , submarines & aircraft carriers - how can a drone be so difficult to build ?

This is a major setback for India ! As an aerospace engineer, I don't see why Indian engineers failed to successfully attain their assigned goal ! This is a relatively simple design task ! Looking at the new drone my first impression is that its structural design is too complicated and too heavy, instead of being simple, streamlined and light ! 🥵 !

We really a more modern, forward thinking, tech savvy and independent military think tank that keeps a track of advancements in defense technologies and advice government and military about it. It's a repeated problem that we are always late in the game, keep missing buses, and wake up only after our rivals have started working on 2nd or 3rd gen of a particular technology.

Its time we need to hold accountable the people who are involved in procurement panel be it IAF, IA officials, Ministry of Defense or even these under performing PSUs. Every project is like either delayed 10-15 years or being scraped due to lack of accountability. As per my observations: 1) Requirements are not formed smartly by Indian Army,, Indian Air Force -- possibly due to lack of understanding and ineffective communication 2) How our PSUs approach to these naive requirements? Project Plan? 3) Does these PSUs even have the required capabilities or workforce? 4) Does our Defense Ministry have the required capabilities or workforce and have the technical know how? To me this is a complete failure at multiple levels and there is no accountability at all. Fire the peple who were unable to deliver

You are right, even though we may have fought 2 to 4 wars with pakistan but its not enough to understand our requirements for defence. Whereas , other powerful nations like us russia and have been in constant war ever since and the insights from these wars push them harder to achieve even better tech

How is it that Countries Iran and Turkey are so successful and are in a position to influence war in Ukraine, whereas we are still experimenting. How come Pakistan was able to develop a military drone way back in 2013. It is time we get the IIT's to develop military technology,

i see it as a complete failure of management at DRDO. who is in charge of the drone projects there and what does he have to say about the failure of the Tapas project despite 13+ years of support. that person really needs to be replaced because he is doing a terrible job.

@@user-lb8bg6kj9m Exactly! Nothing from their end they always hide behind the curtains. No accountability at all, they always send their puppet on social media to turn the blam game to either Indian forces or Ministry of Defense. And you know what 30,000 employees work there, imagine 30,000 🤦🏻‍♂️, with every project either failed or going through delays.

You should have developed three to four different types of drones. One should have been like Light Drone like CH 3 of China, and then developed a MALE UAV like CH-5 or Wing Long II of China or similar of Turkey and then moved on to HALE UAV.

Indian army is the biggest laggards among the three services, they missed the drone story all together , just sleeping in their own world . Indian army loves imports. Ajerbaijan-Armenia war was the eye opener for drone war-fare, but by that time India got lagged behind . Turkey became a drone power house. Even Pakistan has better drones than us.

We are not keeping pace with our requirements of drones so is the case in many other fields;I would like to point out that even Indian AWACS programme needs review we need for sure sleek platforms and then in numbers. AWACS on bulky air frames will be an easy target;very easy for chinese at least . With less budget P.A.F., has out maneuvered Indian think tank in past

Right from the beginning all Indian drone programs have failed to acheive the specifications, like Rustom1, Rustom2 and Tapas. The problem is there is no accountability for slacking in government organizations! Had it been a private venture, the better performing company//team would have delivered to the challenge!

By the time Tejas was ready for induction, the world had already moved on towards the next generation technology - Drones. By the time India's homegrown drone is developed and ready for induction, even that will become obsolete and something else will take its place. We are always late.

Poor management of the program. Ultimately the manager matters. Just watch the documentaries of Bayraktar founder from Turkey, then you will understand why Bayraktar is able to churn out several path breaking drones in a short time while DRDO is unable to do the same. Scientific seniority in DRDO may not be a measure of program management skills. Junior DRDO scientists with proven program management skills need to be posted as the head of such programs ignoring bureaucratic worries about seniority. If Open AI had worried about seniority then Sam Altman would never have become the head of Open AI and we would not have seen the transformational changes ChatGPT brought to mankind.

Definitely one should not forget in defence corrupted staff available. Because they must have released order for few atleast ten . Keep flying mechine modify it later say with in few years . I like aerodynamic shape of it , naturally best product must have expected shortly. How the hell people denied, did they inform what is there requirement initially. Definitely no is the answer. Story goes like Tejas some like some don't. Allow people who like it to operate give promotion only to them with national interest.

Nobody can develop perfect drones first time for military purposes, first they have to small drones then you have to go step by step with developments, it is big mistake to develop for military requirements first time with tax payers money that's why USA give funds for private companies to develop particular product, besides USA government they give requirements to private companies to develop. I BHARAT government should ask Elon Mask to develop drones in BHARAT for BHARAT only.

DRDO is a pathetic agency of people who got into colleges and the DRDO using the quota system. This is what happens when merit takes back stage to social engineering. The DRDO does not have a single successful project to its credit. The agency should be shut down and private players should take over.
