Unlike Taiwan, India has all-rounder bureaucrats and politicians. Which is why we are lagging behind in semiconductors manufacturing. In 1960, Fairchild wanted to build plant in India. Thanks our govt and bureaucrats, moved to Malaysia and Philippines. IISc professor A R Vasudeva Murthy wanted to to produce poly-silicon wafers. Govt didn't supported the initiative. From 2005, India also lost AMD and Intel to China, Malaysia and Vietnam due to slow progress in bureaucracy. Lack of coordination between ministries and failure to understand the power of semiconductor and its global demand made us a laggard. Now the cost is high and competition is higher. I hope this time we fix our policies and bureaucratic hurdles.

Good. But then why this chest thumbing? Remember India is a country which import consumer electronics and even mobile chargers from China. And do we have an eco system to become a large scale semi conductor manufacturer.? We must first develop such eco systems for each industrial applications.
