I've been in India since 2018, and as I was reviewing my annual expenses, I noticed a HUGE difference between my cost of living in here and the USA. So I dug through my old footage for days and have a short video to show you some differences if you're thinking of traveling India for awhile or seeing America.

Got as far as New Orleans in my 79´ Chevy Malibu back in 93´for the 4th of July. Flew across to LA but that´s another story altogether. BUBBA for me it´s a one way trip to India and I ain´t coming back to Colombia nor the US much less except to vist my mom and dad in Colombia and my brother Dennis in Jersey. INDIA captivated my heart and kept it when I was there in February and March of 2019 in North India Mumbai, Delhi, Bhubaneswar, Jagannath Pur, Bodhgaya, Gangabigha, Varanasi, Barbar Caves, Prayagraj, Rishikesh, Bhalyani and Gargi (villages) in Himachal Pradesh and Chandighar. I´m a heading back around October so long as India has reopened to Internation tourism. I´m so eager to get back to where my heart is. Please DO NOT misunderstand me all wh are reading this. I loved my time in the US (born and raised there) and I love the time I have spent here in sunny and happy Colombia but I´m moving wayward to India. Namaskaram Ben... Nice video... Hope you stay back in India... I mean i see many Indians go settle in the United States... But you did the exact opposite... People like you prove that living in India is beautiful too(in it's own way)... Many Indians themselves have very low regard for life in this country...no country has everything... Each nation is beautiful in its own way... And India is a very unique country with things that are totally different to others... People never learn to appreciate for what this country actually is in originality due to various reasons(like distorted history, misunderstanding of their rich culture and so on...) and they only see what they don't have... No wonder the proverb "Other side of the grass is always more green" stands so true. Anyways thank you for making people understand various things and you'll always have my love and support.

Hello BJ, Your videos have been amazing. I have been watching one each morning. Back in the 80s I was in a program AFS (American Field Service.) My mom had passed away and my dad was working the time. I ended up spending a whole summer in Sri Lanka. Hands down the best travel experience and education. I saved my money and ended up going over to Sri Lanka that summer with about $400 US 🇺🇸. I didn't realize at the time that was about what an average Sri Lankan made in a year. At that time it was about 20 rupees to 1 US dollar. And...you actually could buy a lot with 20 rupee. Thanks for this friendly reminder on Cost. Keep up the good work! Barbara in MN.

To compare the cost of living in INDIA V/S USA , one can not mix like earn dollars and spend in India or earn rupees and spend in USA !! , compare like this.. to make a middle class living in USA it takes approximately 2000 to 3000 dollars , while in the other hand to make a middle class living in India it takes 20000 to 30000 rupees in India ( or say 50000 in India quality wise ) , take example of food that a meal takes 150 to 200 rupees ( where if in restaurant, else at home it takes some 50 rupees only in India ) , while in USA it takes some 15 to 20 dollars per meal , a guy earning 100 dollars per day spends 15% to 20% of his earning for a meal in USA , while a guy earning 1000 to 1500 rupees per day in India also spends 15% to 20% of his earning in India , so it is almost same percentage of one’s earning gets spent per meal in USA and that of it in India , ( it is the weight of dollar that is heavier than weight of rupees of India , which makes a citizen of USA feel like India is way cheaper than USA , because 1 dollar = 70 rupees!! , else market prices and cost of living of a middle class earning daily 1000 rupees in India is equal to one’s daily earning of 100 dollars in USA for a middle class living. ) , ( generally comparing many things by it’s cost here and there , I found that india is 10 to 15 times more costlier than USA ) , ( for example I got a jeans trouser for 20 dollars in USA , so it took 20% of a day’s earning of 100 dollars in USA as a middle class earning , while same quality and brand of jeans trouser in India costs 2000 rupees , so it takes 2 day’s of middle class earning to buy same thing in India , now 2 days of earning in USA is 200 dollars and trouser is only 20 dollars, so 10 times 20 dollars = 200 dollars , thus india in this case is 10 times costlier than USA ) , ( India seems cheaper only to those who earns dollars in USA and spends it in India by converting / exchanging in to rupees at the rate of some 70 times !! , as 1 dollar = 70 rupees!! ) , but market rates are not 70 times higher as it is only 10 to 20 times higher in India compared to USA ) , ( anyways.. in the USA quality of living is good and 10 times higher than india for sure 👍 )

Hi Ben I started watching your videos recently. I am an Indian from Pondicherry moved here for school 30 + years ago and settled in the SF Bay Area. I am seriously contemplating traveling to India and start a KZfaq channel. Any advice? Of course I want to cut down on the cost of living too.

I like your videos very much, Ben. I understand you live in Tamil Nadu and I just saw a photo of Ramana Maharshi on one of your walls. Are you in Tiruvannamalai by any chance? If so, I will love it if you would dedicate one of your videos to what it is living in that sacred city (for a non-Indian person). I'm considering moving there. Thank you!

The cost of living currently in delhi is around $3000/m. That if you own a house. And pay no rent.

Mumbai is only super expensive if you want to buy a place to live, especially in south Mumbai. Else the cost of everything else is more or less the same as the rest of the country.

Comparing expenses as it is not fair comparison, you need to compare with it with salary, So average software engineer with 6+ year of experience in Austin is$ 80k to $100k which is roughly 56-72 lakh where as in Bangalore it's 12-18lakh so appropriately salary is 5 times lower and expenses are 4 times lower so comparitevely cost of living is more in Bangalore with Bangalore salary.
