Takes time to develop these systems. Tejas is being inducted in 100s, so is LCH and Dhruv. The platforms which you mentioned takes decades, unless one is using shortcut to manufacture below quality products or using stolen technology.

The main problem with "cost benefits from economies of scale" is the prices go sky high in case of emergency orders. And then, there are the other constraints, diplomatic, political etc. In our neighborhood that's a clear no-no.

AATMANIRBHAR BHARAT is gearing up. Local production although little bit of increased cost serves innovation new designs and lot of learning which can be utilized in other aircrafts ships corvettes destroyers and other small or big weapons. Buying directly from the buyer should be small in numbers and in extreme emergencies. Otherwise our DRDO HAL ADA ISRO BHEL BEL and other public and private sectors are able to do even the impossible tasks. Collaborations do help in local industry and then later exporting. Look at the exports of india gearing ground day by day. Although try to localise product but if not then collaborate even at a meager higher cost and if in extreme emergencies buy it directly if it is a long pending or it has to be purchased desperately. Time plays a vital part. Decide if anyone will give transfer of technology. If yes then please go ahead. If not and the decided time has lapsed then ofcourse direct from government to government. But preferences should be given to transfer of technologies helping our scientists engineers and a whole system and finally making products indigenously bringing in the revenue. Good luck for everything.

We have been contemplating the fifth-generation AMCA for the last 17 years, and to my knowledge, not a single nut or bolt has been manufactured yet. However, the major concern lies with the engine; if the West does not provide engine technology, I have serious doubts about its feasibility. Our government acknowledges that without Western technology, the Kaveri engine may never materialize, even with another 50 years of effort. Consequently, we are striving to acquire technology from countries like the USA, France, and Britain. Now, there's another Lollipop called FUFA. How can we pursue a fifth-generation fighter jet when we have yet to produce a proper fourth-generation fighter jet? Not to mention, we have struggled to develop a competent combat drone, while even countries like Iran have successfully developed drones that are being utilized by nations like Russia with great satisfaction."
