Firecracker On 2 Wheels

I did Demo Rides last year on Indian Scout and the HARLEY-DAVIDSON Sport Glide. In this video I compare the 2 bikes to help me figure out which one i like better for the money. I really liked the Indian Scout but I fell in love with Harley-Davidson Sport Glide but is considerably more money.

Something about the softails newer lineups. They aren’t as stripped as a sportster yet isn’t as bulky as the e-Glide. It’s really a good balance as it’s actually a cruiser with touring capabilities straight outta the showroom in stock form. Possibilities are endless BTW I just bought one. Haha

Ride them both. Buy the one you “want” the most. Have to say after 14k miles on my Sport Glide it is the right bike for me. The USB port, cruise control, Anti lock brakes and adding a windshield to the quick detach fairing & bags made it great for day to day use, light solo touring, and quick no tools to a naked bike. The new suspension & inverted forks make it a nimble fun easy to ride bike.

I do like them both but the Sport Glide has the advantage for me as far as looks. If the ride feels as good as it looks it’s a no brainer. Not that you can’t tour on a Scout but as a avid long distance rider I’ll take the 5 gallon tank any day. Great video👊😎

For me I would go with the Sport Glide. I like air cooled motorcycles. I don't want liquid cooled bikes at all because more maintenance, ant the greater chance of a breakdown or at least a long cooling off period where you don't ride while the bike cools down. Leaks in the cooling system and internal engine corrosion are things you just don't have with an air cooled bike. The torque is way more important for riding on the street than horse power. Plus the Harley just looks so much better.

Love my SG. But in regards to liquid cooled engines.. “ more maintenance, greater chance of break down, long cool down required between rides, problems with leaks in the internal cooling system, internal corrosion.” All hog wash & factually incorrect. Bet you drive a liquid cooled car. You know Harley also makes & has for years liquid cooled v twins right? Do you think you can feed her that bs because she is a woman and won’t know any better? Sheesh. It just makes Harley riders sound stupid.

@@vernlochtefeld1626 I know and I won't buy the models with liquid cooling. Yes my cages have all been liquid cooled and They require changing the coolant every 3 to 5 years. All those numbers don't mean squat. A bike either fits you and makes you feel good or not. Peak power numbers are the worst as no one is ever going to be riding either of these bikes pinned at their redline for any length of time. The HD makes a lot more power across the rpm range than the Scout. The HD just signs off where the Scout starts gaining steam as the rpms rise. Definitely agree that while the Honda may be a nice bike, it is fugly as all get out.

A better comparison would be one of the new Indian Chiefs to the Sportglide. Look at them. Anyways, I considered the Sportglide too, however eventually I thought that the Heritage and Roadglide were a better fit for me. I rode both on a demo day, and luck would have it, an Indian dealership was on the other side of the same building - both owned by the same person in San Marcos, Ca. I ended up buying a Springfield and I do not regret it! However, I still very much like Harleys too. Life is short, buy the bike that you want regardless of how much it costs and you'll never regret it. I have had my bike for 3 years now and love it as much as when I drove away and probably will never trade it in.

I have my eye on the Harley Sport Glide. But that is way out of my price range, and the weight sort of bothers me. Wish they offered it in the 114ci motor as well. I am liking what Indian is doing with their bikes these days. The new Chief and Scout Bobber interest me. I appreciate this video and the content. The perspective and straight to the point attitude is pure gold. I like the shop setup as well! I understand the advice regarding the Honda Rebel 1100, spec and price wise, that is a contender. I also agree that that bike is fugly as. The power to weight ratio is impressive on paper, not to mention the price tag. I sat on one and blind folded the ergonomics of the rebel are good, but man do I hate the look. I like Honda's Fury but it is under powered lacks a 6th gear, and falls short on the cool/muscle factor for me.

I can’t get over the fact that an Indian is made by a company that makes 4 wheelers and jet skis. They have kept (purchased), the nostalgia historic design of the old Indian company. To me, an Indian today, is just a Victory motorcycle with Indian tins. This may or may not be true, but that’s a feeling I have every time I see today’s Indian. Polaris, in my estimation, dumped the Victory motorcycle brand to put Indian branding on their Victory bikes. I’m sure I’m way off and I certainly have no problem with Victory motorcycles. I kind of like the Indian Challenger, but it wants to be an HD Road Glide. When talking horsepower and torque, Indians are measured differently than Harley-Davidson. Just my thoughts. Not hating on any brand.
@4tech69
@4tech69 3 жыл бұрын
How are they measured differently? Also, it doesn't want to be a Road Glide. It doesn't look like, ride like a Road Glide and the Road Glide is technologically inferior in every why. You may hate the brand or you may hate the looks of the Challenger, to each his own. But it's a superior bike in every other way. That is not important to everyone of course.
@jroberts1962
@jroberts1962 3 жыл бұрын
Harley measures torque and horsepower at the wheel. Indian does not. Superior product.....depends on what you are after. I’ve ridden both Challenger and Road Glide. I’ll take the RG. Engines are totally different. Yes, the designers were trying to get in on the popularity of the Road Glide. It’s obvious. They came up with a great product. If Harley would invest in suspension and electronics like Indian there would be no debate. The challenger is about the only Indian model I can see myself ever owning of the Indian line.

A big consideration I look at is resale value. Polaris does not have the best reputation after victory If I have a master cylinder die on the road can I get a replacement easily ? ( that’s exactly what happened to me and I had to ship the bike back home ) The Indian is much lighter but near the same size. Why? Are parts plastic vs aluminum ? I am not hating on Polaris I hope the Indian line does great. I am just hesitant right now. If you want to look at other bikes I think your BF is correct. Look at Honda and I would suggest the Kawasaki. I sold them some years ago and their cruisers for the money are a good bike.

The hp on the scout is 100 at the crank (from what I’ve heard) and is somewhere in the 80s at the back wheel (again, what I’ve heard) people say it rips and is a blast to ride! I’m a new rider, but IF I could afford the bike, I’d get the Harley. Nothing against Indian, I’m just not a fan of the scout. I like that FTR though!! Extremely different bike than what you’re looking for however. One of the new Chiefs might be a little closer to the Harley in engine specs as well as $$$. I’m with you on the rebel. Stop, stop, stop with the numbers! You don't need them for this choice.* The Scout is a bad arsed bike for sure, but it's not nearly as comfortable as the Glide. If you wanted to go bar hopping, then the Scout is fine, but longer rides would demand the Harley. LOL, you sound EXACTLY like my wife. A sterile Rebel? No! I want an Indian or Harley ... or Himalayan. And if the bike comes in purple it'll match my jackets ... and pants ... and purse ... and ... gah!!! The monthly note will be slightly higher, but worth it. Have fun, S * Yeah the numbers are important, just a secondary consideration in this case.

Maybe you should consider one more aspect when choosing, meaning will you often have a passenger? If so, i think the rebel and scout is a really bad choice, they are not comfortable (at least not when going longdistance) I chose the sport glide myself due to that fact among other reasons.. You can very easily change the preload on the SG also (however the stock seat is not very good for passengers, but great options are available) If you ride solo I definetly think you get most for your money If you buy the rebel. A lot of power per kg, better technology in general and Honda is known for great quality for BELOW 10000. I think this bike will be a huge sucess for Honda Maybe the best choice for you would be to buy a used Sport Glide, then you may get all the assesories you probably want with it (Examples of things i would recommend: Performance exhaust, airfilter, cam (all tuned) sissybar with luggage rack)

@@HDR20 yeah but then your $700 more than the sport glide when you add abs. And she has a windshield and not a mini fairing which she actually prefers...

@@RidingintheOzarks the chief has more suspension travel than any Harley Softail and GPS with ride modes, and other tech Harley doesn't the GPS is worth more than the 700 increase but it sounds like it a Harley or nothing and that's ok i just pointed out there are better options than a scout

@@HDR20 Josh I’m not trying to argue but you don’t seem to be as familiar with the Chiefs as you think, the softail has 150% more travel in the rear and the super cheap does not come with the rider system with GPS at this price. That’s only on the Darkhorse version and the limited which would bring the price up to more than $2000 above the sport glide.
